Typical! Drive the car for three years with no mechanical issues. Now trying to sell it.
Two minutes into a test drive with a potential buyer and this awful metallic graunching / rattling noise emanates from the front off-side! rolleyes

Pull over after a couple of minutes slow driving but can't see anything (sound stops when stationary), then subsequently quiet as a mouse! Anyone had a similar issue with their V8V before? Seemed to be worse when going over bumps but the sound didn't seem dependent on road speed or engine speed.

Took it out along the same root today and all OK. I thought it could have been a loose heat-shield or something but all looks fine from the engine bay and from underneath.

Most likely cause I think is that I picked up a can or something on the road which got caught somewhere although the lack of sound change with speed was rather strange. Perhaps it was caught between the exhaust and under-tray or something.

Just want to make sure it's a one off and not the sign of a possible problem, really.

Stone between tin shield and brake disc usually does something like this. Stop gently and reverse usually clears it if that is the issue.

It's most probably a stone between the disc and heatshield or the caliper and rim. They do thend to make a fierce racket, but normally harmless. Normally the wear down and dislodge them selves in a short distance.

Had the same.. Reversed as suggested above and cleared it.

Thanks Guys - seems like a likely explanation - there's certainly plenty of stones around here at the moment!
It really was an awful racket!

Same here, seems very sensitive to the smallest of stones as well. Part of our works car park is Tarmacked but not used very often, if you stray off line as it were, it sounds like the front wheel is about to fall off.

Drcarrera - I suppose you didn't get an offer for the car then?
