Right I have my ChipEx kit being dispatched tomorrow so it should be with me Thursday so I have Thursday evening to get the job done before I tootle off slowly to Peterborough on Friday to PaintShield.

So being a complete dingbat with anything practical I have a question, what is the best way to prepare the stone chip area to ensure that all wax is removed thus preventing the applied paint from sliding off ten minutes later??

Any other practical tips are greatly received with regards this frankly daunting task I have to perform!

Hi Andy , last car had a front end that looked as though it had been shot repeatedly with a 12 Bore! Pearl has Venture Shield applied which to date has proved to be totally effective. What you are having done is even better. Good luck with the Chip Ex. I think that you will need a very steady hand.

Dig out your last stone chip thread. There were links in there to a couple of previous threads about Chipex. There are lots and lots of tips in there, especially from the toothpick meister, Jockman.

Good luck. The trick is to take your time. Many thin layers is better than one big blob. If you're not happy with a particular bit, wipe it off and start again.

Hi Andy,
would be interested to hear how you get on with the stone-chip repair. Im taking mine into Peterborough in a couple of weeks time. My Vantage has only done c4000 miles so not many chips to repair but I have one or two annoying little buggers to hide if I can.
Before the film goes on I got Francis Maloney (Paddy) to detail the car and boy did he do a cracking job. He made sure all the surfaces were swirl free and contaminate free, ready for the film. I promised him I would get some photos posted of the fabulous job he's done but to be honest Ive not taken the car out of the garage since he did it. I just visit it now and again and look at it gleaming. It will probably never look as good ever again, so Im reluctant to get anything on it until the films on. There is another story that there were so many backs and forths getting the car diagonal across the garage so Francil could work all around it that I have no idea how I'm going to get it out again!

Hmm, only met you once Andy and I'm guessing that you have about as much patience as Gordon Ramsey interviewing a chef from Nandos.

Mines only done 1000 miles and is in the same state currently sat in the garage spotless waiting for Friday I have 2 stone chips I picked up in Wales one of which is on the front bumper, hence the ChipEx I'll report back after my experience because if I can get a half reasonable job I am remotely happy with then anybody can do it laugh

Not a trait I am known for!!

Just found another bloody stone chip on the other side, this one looks worse, ffs!

Looks like me and the cocktail sticks have a long night tomorrow night, assuming the ChipEx turns up which I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't as delivery states 1-2 days although I was assured it would be next day.

Well the films on and well you can't really see it, which I guess is a good thing!

There are a few bubbles here and there but I was assured that these will disappear over the next couple of weeks so I will keep an eye on them.

When I drove back from Peterborough I definitely felt a lot more relaxed about the journey knowing I had some protection in place against the dreaded stone chips!!

I'm now thinking I should have had the rear quarters done as well because guess what, yep I have a couple of stone chips lol!!

I am having the car detailed next week so will inspect the film after that and see where I am at smile

Andy, definitely remove the crap that the factory puts on the rear wings and have the Paintshield put on up to the swage line.

Didn't you have the paint enhancement done before the shield was applied? Better to do that first so the shield is on top of good paint.

If you have any bubbles left after a couple of weeks I can tell you how Anne at Paintshield told me to get rid of them. Saved me a trip back there.

Mmmm the organisation of detailing in relation to PaintShield went a bit pete tong, these people are booked up for weeks in advance and I just wanted to drive the damn car so the events have ended up the wrong way round!

Any info regards the bubbles would be cool!

Andy,

Tom has always advised me to leave the bubbles well alone, hopefully as things thoroughly dry out they will go down.

I had one or two corkers on my last application but after a fortnight or so they disappeared,if you are concerned or you have some that won't go the best thing imo
is to speak to Tom and let them have a look.

Cheers, I will investigate after the detail next week and as you say I'll give them a call if it hasn't settled down.

My V8V Roadster is going into Peterborough a week tomorrow so all this info is useful stuff.

I had mine detailed by Francis what seems ages and its been languishing is garage waiting for due date. Paintshield are indeed very busy. You didn't tell us Andy how you got on with the Chipex. I gave it a go and really pleased with the repair on the small chips but couldn't build up the level on the small but deep ones. They are still there but not as noticeable.

Sometimes the bubbles won't go. I had a stubborn one that remained after four weeks. If you have any after four or five weeks I will email you with the Paintshield approved way to remove them. Whatever you do don't apply wax or glass coat over the film until the bubbles have gone as the film needs to breath.

My experience was the same as you, if there was one thing I was doing wrong it was not leaving the paint long enough to dry I found you need to leave each coat for at least ten minutes, but as you say I think I would have been there for weeks trying to build the level up!
