Hi All, advice needed.

V8V 07 35K original clutch (I think) and driven conservatively.

Engine idling, not moving and in neutral, foot of clutch hear a load clunk behind me underneath. (This may also be happening at speed but I haven't noticed as I have the radio up to drown out all the creaking sounds)

It's obviously something engaging as it should but it's loud and I've never noticed before, the car changes gear fine.

Going in for service on Tuesday but they're gonna say 'new clutch needed' as they did last year... and the year before!

Thanks

Could be the thrust bearing, in which case, you may as well have a full new clutch while its apart.

Don't fret. Perfectly normal and as we like to say TADTS (They All Do That, Sir).

If only I had a penny for every time I heard that.

^^^^ Indeed. If it makes you feel any better, mine has done the clunk since new and I'm at 35K miles.

Pretty sure I get a clunk too - 48k miles here. Considering the chassis is so solid, I'm amazed there aren't more obvious noises you dont get to hear in other cars. I got very paranoid about the noise the solenoid for the A/C made, until someone told me what it was! smile

Is this not what the volume on the radio is for?

Mine makes a slight clunk as I drop the clutch in neutral but it's just the backlash in the clutch assembly (spline clearances and springs) being taken up as the prop shaft spins up to engine speed. I certainly wouldn't call it loud though so maybe there's something not right with yours. Won't be the clutch though if it's from the rear.
