Has anyone used a USB drive to store music files on?

I have looked in the manual but cannot see the file types supported on the USB drive.

Do you have to put your music in any special folders?

Any experience/help appreciated!

Yes all the time smile

Supports mp3 files, I tried FLAC files didn't work and it picks up the folders fine - you can create them as you wish.

Yes.

I use just one directory. It may work with several directories, but knowing how temprmental these things can be, I just kept it simple.

I tried a Sony music player, but that would not work. Could not understand why, because it works with normal amplifiers.

With regard to file types, perhaps in the mistaken belief that I am getting better sound quality, I convert uncompressed sound files (often from videos), to .wav format. Probably need to be a musician to tell the difference though.

The USB method allows more flexibility than 'burning' to a CD, which then cannot be altered.

That is my experience anyway. I would be interested in any experts comments.

Word of warning, it doesn't recognise 64GB sticks!

Other than that I use a two level directory structure and it seems happy with it so you don't need everything in one directory.

Ok, thanks all.

I have most of my music in WMA Lossless, so I will try and see what happens.

If not then I guess I'll have convert to mp3 or something...

I use a 64GB stick, so I'm pretty sure it is a matter of the brand, not an absolute inability to use 64GB.

There was a thread a while back on using USB drives. It does seem a bit fussy as to which sticks it will read. The Freecom portable drive is a popular choice, it's what I have in mine.
