You can only get a V8 GT4.

You can get a V12 GT3 but it would cost an absolute fortune.

A few road legal GT4 cars have been build.

In order of performance/price/etc
GT4 is V8
GT3 is V12
GTE (the LM entry) is V8

Seems odd at first but it's because in GTE, rules make the Aston V8 more favourable than V12

I've often wondered whether it would be better/cheaper to take a road car and strip things out whilst adding some of the GT4 enhancements (which you could do to a V12 in terms of GT4 aero, etc) or take a racer and make it road legal.

If it's to be used solely on track, the better bet has to be taking a racer, in which instance you may not even bother making it road legal. If it's to use as a road car too, essentially to be like a 911 GT3RS but that bit more raw again, I'd argue it's better to start with the road car and strip it out as otherwise I suspect the noise/vibration/poor air con/extended low front lip/FIA fuel cell & filler, etc, etc make it a difficult proposition

There are one or two examples of people adapting GT4s to become road legal, adding the bare minimum to pass approval, but they are beyond raw by road car standards

Having said all that, the fact remains a new(ish) street legal GT4 probably wouldn't be any better than some road cars at similar/less money. So best bet is buy a GT4 that's a few years old for significantly less £s

AM Racing email me every so often with a list of cars for sale on behalf of customers, from GT4 to LM1 ! I think they may be on the AMR website

saw the site already - but i want to go the other way - since race cars haven't been treaten very well smile perhaps i should correct my question - i want a V12V as a Sunday racer - adding a roll cage, sport seats, fire extinguisher etc. has not necessary to be a GT4 or a N24... and it should stay road legal smile has someone done this before in here ?

I'm not aware of it having been done but I think it's a great idea and have often pondered it. Put on some elements of the latest GT4 aero pack with the big rear spoiler, take out the electric seat mechanism and mount lightweights directly onto runners, take out all the carpet etc from under bonnet & in boot, take out some interior trim, as you say add rollcage & extinguisher, replace the interior door trim with one of the race car door trims or even better, replace the whole door with a race car one that incorporates plastic windows, replace the mirrors with non-electric, replace rear window with a plexiglass one, change steering wheel perhaps, change manifolds/exhaust for lighter/more free flowing - I wonder just how much weight would be saved doing that. 200kg ? IIRC it's a 300-400kg weight saving for the full on GT4 but that really is stripped out

It would make sense doing that to a second hand say £40-50k V8 or a £70k V12 but less so IMO to a newer more valuable car

What are you after? A N24/GT4 to drive about for track days or track specific?

Have you driven an N24 on the road? Theyre a bit harsh TBH...

Out of the 100 or so made only a handfull are road registered, I'd guess the early cars are now circa £50k if you can find them.

yes

I know of one N24 and a couple of GT4's V8V's that are road registerd
I don't know of a single V12V GT3

These cars have NO NVH no aircon and are a nightmare to drive on the road
Talking to Mike at BR he has drive N24's on the road and hates them for that!

Only early ones have no A/C, pretty much became obligatory once Prodrive began building them. Usually damped for the circuit - Billies are bouncy where Konis are better but still as Mike rightly says they are not a car for long journeys!
You wont see a GT3 on the road, the old GT3 DBRS9 I have here is a complete sod to manoeuvre and would be impossible to use daily along with it being probably impossible to get it SVA'd and especially with an engine rebuild every 9000 kms... Though Ive not had any dealings with the newer version.

The bigger issue would be that the V12 in the GT3 is about 8 inches further rearwards and about 4 inches lower. The GT4 V8 is pretty much a 50/50 split weight wise, the V12 being 100ks heavier might induce a fair bit of understeer.

Which class of racing do you wish to take part in?
Using a road legal, and road drivable car for racing, could well mean racing at the tail end of the field.
Power might be competitive, but race suspension and slick tyres make such an enormous difference.

Why not get a cheaper racing car and a cheaper road car?

If you have a one car does all scenario it will be compromised in both areas.

I'd also go for a V8 GT4 rather than modifying a V12V.

If youre not going to compete seriously in one - ie enter the AMR GT4 Challenge where there are set regulations, then buy a 4.7 N24/GT4 (pref ASM as they are quicker in the hands of non-pro drivers). Get Bruce to do his wonders on the motor - we have a hybrid 4.3 N24/ 4.7 engine not built to those regs and is about 485bhp. Add that to the lighter overall weight of the V8 over the V12 (1340 ish without ballast) and its a fairly quick car.

Be warned, its a slippery slope, next would be adjustable ABS/ TC, bias pedal box, aero kit......

Excellent choice.

I wonder who else is trying to get a Mako blue V12 turned up to 11??

Where would one go to do that?
