Loan of an Aston
Discussion
Hi All,
I have a very large favor to ask the group, My friend is getting married on May 24th near Cirencester. He is a huge James Bond fan and I really want to surprise him with an Aston Martin to drive or him to be able to drive to the wedding.
Unfortunately, my friend who has an Aston is away that weekend, but did tell me to post on here as you are a friendly bunch and someone might be willing to help out.
Please let me know if you are interested or have any other recommendations on getting a an Aston.
Thanks and sorry if this is spam.

If you had an Aston and someone from the internet asked if they could let their friend drive it, would you say yes?
Not having a go, just expecting a fairly low response on this one.
If you're going to do it, hire one. Much safer for everyone involved. I hear these people are good: http://www.bespokes.co.uk/

I let my best friend borrow my V8 in Italy last year but only because I've know him forever and know he's not an idiot, also my brother was best man and in the passenger seat at the time but there is noway in hell I'd let anyone else drive mine. Less so the V12 (A good mate has asked for August and I've said no)

I let my best friend drive my brand new Tuscan 4.0; it was 4 days old. Within a quarter of a mile he'd smashed it backwards into a bridge. People who aren't used to fast cars really have absolutely no idea what happenes when the push the squirty pedal - and I'd imagine it's far worse for a groom who's mind is certainly elsewhere.Shame Robbo66 doesn't still have his car, IIRC he made lots of pronouncements about how he'd let anybody drive his V12V

^ exactly, the groom had been joking that he was going to put the hammer down but I knew even in the V8 he'd pap it (given his docile nature and diesel fetish). My brother did find a nice straight and told him to have a blast but said he backed off very quickly
The V8 is far more balanced than the V12 imho, I adore the 12 but you have to be a little more alert in it, things seem to happen a lot quicker.
I can only imagine your Tuscan to have been even more of a handful

I'm sure many of us on here would seriously consider it if we were close AND the driver. But for someone else to be doing the driving, plus if I understand correctly for the owner not even to be in the car, frankly I find the idea that anyone would lend their car of any description to someone other than a close mate/family member somewhat ludicrous
Lending mates or anyone fast cars, bikes, boats etc is just not worth the hassle. Sure, 99% of people are honest, trustworthy and would be grateful for such an offer. But if anything goes wrong from a slight nick, running out of petrol or even a major accident, then it just causes embarrassment, bad feeling and crap loads of paperwork.
So I'd rent one from a specialist supplier, but it is expensive. Or better still, get him to arrive by parachute like that flash git Gustav Graves in Die Another Day.

If you were closer, I would happily drive your mate to the Church, but he would not get to drive it. Lending Astons to grooms at weddings doesn't have a good record on here (apologies to Rob and Molly for reminding them)

Thanks Neil. Its their 1st anniversary on 28th May
So we lost our Aston - but we gained a son-in-law!

Turns out we could of lost a lot more than most of us realised that day too - 8 months later the bride (passenger) produced a fine bouncing baby grandson for us

TBF - when we recommend Hiscox Insurance we do speak from experience
…..and we learnt that the passenger cell of a V8S is a reassuringly safe place to be.KarlFranz said:
I think the fact that the OP only has one post on this forum doesn't help inspire confidence.
I think you lot should head your heads in shame. This lovely young man posts his 1st post on this forum, selflessly asking for the loan of your Aston so that his mate can drive it to the Church /Mosque/Synagogue and all you lot can do is berate him.
Where is that Christian/Muslim/Jewish charity ?
Think again, search deeply into your innards, come forth and offer up ,it's only a car,you will feel better for it.
Most importantly think.......What would James Bond have done ?

basically anyone asking can.....
