Ok so I know this has no doubt been covered many times, but I couldn't find a recent post to resurrect i'm afraid.

09 V8VR, 3700 miles.....brakes squeal like a black cab just before the car comes to rest at low speed, and in turn make me look like an ar$e at the traffic lights.....(already waiting for the jokes) biglaugh

Seriously though, it's not really on. Spoke to an Aston dealer today and they just said....yeah, they can do that sometimes. You might have to replace the pads, or in some cases the discs too.......WTF !

Is there anybody out there who can offer advice on how to sort this, as i'm only two weeks into ownership and it's seriously starting to wind me up.

Take it back to the dealer if you've only had it a couple of weeks - their response is not customer friendly !!
Sounds like the low mileage may have something to do with it (glazed discs and hard pads) but there is a procedure for sorting the problem if you don't want to go back to the dealer. It involves getting up to a reasonable speed then jumping on the brakes ( assuming its safe to do so) and then repeating a couple of times. Someone will be along soon to confirm the exact routine but it worked on my 9 a few years back . I think it is about getting heat in to the discs.

Sounds like a fairly standard 'bedding in' procedure: http://www.brakes-pads-discs.co.uk/pagid/bedding-i...

It might help in this case. Otherwise, get the dealer to take the pads off and reapply some of the (blue, I think) anti-squeal gloop.

My new GTR does the same - I sound like an old bus in traffic.

It's been back to Nissan who say that's what they do because of the compound of the pads - they even have a service bulletin from Nissan to back that up (i.e. customers have complained so they have come up with an excuse after the fact).

I have to say the GTR is a fantastic car but Nissan as a company are pretty bloody poor.

The procedure that was explained to me by an AM mechanic, is to first do a few stops using gentle braking. That will put some heat into the braking components. Follow that by some heavy braking from higher speeds.

It is suggested that this technique should be used occasionally, even when the brakes do not have squeal troubles. Apparently it is continual light braking that can create some kind of surface on the pads, which sometimes causes the squealing.

Perhaps worth a try, but your squeal might be due to something else.

Anyway as you say, it is most annoying.

It's usually the rear pads. I had the same, went through the same TADTS and "try to wear your brake discs out sir" type answer.
I eventually just replaced my half worn rear pads and the problem has gone. 3-4k miles later, still quiet as a mouse.

yes

Both mine have done it to begin with
I've found following help;
a good pressure wash when I clean the car
copper antisqueal on both sides of the shims (apparently the blue stuff can attack seals)
chamfered edges to the pads
Knock the handbrake back slightly on the adjuster (too often incorrectly adjusted with the car off the ground)

I have had the squeal problem as well. It can be sorted. My Aston Dealer installed large blue shims which sit behind the pads. Totally sorted on my present V8S and the previous one. Apparently it is all about high frequency vibration!

Ah....blue shims.........the guy mentioned something about those (well shims anyway....not about them being blue).

Dare I ask how much or was it a warranty jobbie ?

I'm also in MK smile

Are you out of warranty? Either way I suggest a trip down to AM Works Service and ask for a quote to fix it. They usually get it sorted. If you want the service chaps email PM me and I can supply.

PS, I had it on my V8V as well - was fixed in the end - by Works Service (under warranty)!

Indeed, the car is out of warranty, it's an 09 and I've only recently bought it (check by AM beforehand, but not purchased through the dealer network).

It just infuriates me to have to spend no doubt a ton of money to fix something that seems to be a very widespread issue, and one that AM more or less seems to think is acceptable and dare I say it trivial.

I've had numerous similar type cars over the years, and not one has suffered from this issue...ever frown

I had exactly the same experience as you describe.
The squealing was horrendous from my brakes at low speeds.
I tried all the usual hard braking , slapping anti squeal paste on etc etc but it did not cure it.
My car had OEM pads.
I changed the pads out for EBC red stuff ones out of sheer frustration.
Took about 600 miles to bed them in and they have been quiet as a mouse ever since.
I found the red stuff pads as good as OEM under all braking conditions and I think I paid around £220 for pads all round.
Fitted them myself- very easy on these cars.
Porterfield RS4 pads get very good reviews, I chose EBC Red stuff purely because they were easier to acquire.
They came with the sensor cut out slots as well.

Thanks for this advice. I'm going to try and bed them this weekend, but failing that I'll be fitting new. As a new owner this is really starting to give me a negative image of the car (might sound excessive, but it's how it is), and that's not good, so need to stop it before the mental rot creeps in wink

They aren't shims Rob, it is the blue polymer based anti squeal compound that has squeezed out the side of the pad. The stuff I mentioned earlier that BR suggested I didn't use.
The solution is indeed to stop the resonant frequency the disc hits as you slow down

Chiltern Aston did mention to me yesterday though that AM have brought one some shims to help stop the squeal....although they didn't elaborate anymore on it.

I can obviously sympathise with your situation but if you've had plenty of high performance cars (with high performance pads), you must be aware that brake squeal does indeed 'come with the territory'.

You also bought a garage queen. I suspect that squeeky pads won't be the last of your woes.

I can honestly say I've never had a top end performance car which sounded like a taxi before.

As for the last of my woes, if there are too many I'll just out it and go back to an F430 (which incidentally had even less miles than the Aston when I bought it, and never gave me a days trouble).
