Had a look over past posts on problems with the roadster roof, but any other suggestions would be welcome. Problem as follows:

Had the roof control module replaced a couple of months ago. (Usual symptoms, roof not working, dashboard lighting up like a Christmas tree etc.) Anyway, all fine since then, until earlier this week. Pull on the roof switch, the windows drop a bit as usual, but nothing after that. No whirring, no sign of movement. There's no problem with the other functions on the car, so I don't thing the RCM has failed again. All I can hear is a faint click on the offside, which sounds like a relay switch.

Have checked all the fuses (there are several that relate to the roof operation). Done the window reset procedure. Am now charging up the battery to max just in case it's that. It's possible that the tonneau latch motors aren't working, but they can't both have failed simultaneously surely.

Any other ideas? Sun is shining...not happy!

Sounds like the cover latches are not releasing
Not at home so can't check but IIRC the is a way to release them manually

Thanks Mikey k. You can release them manually, but apparently they cannot be re-secured manually. So I'm tempted to try, but don't fancy the consequences if the roof mechanism is still dead.

Just out of interest do people operate the roof with the engine running or just on battery power? I nearly always do it whilst the engine is running but this thread got me thinking which is the best way.

I've done both regularly but only when I know the battery is well charged

I was told at Gaydon to operate only with engine running .

There's no way I'm starting the engine every time I want to move the roof
Never done it on any of my other roadsters.
ATEOD a properly charged battery should have more than enough power to run the hydraulics for 20 seconds.

good grief

I think I'm paranoid, always have engine running, doors shut, windows up, and then say to passenger don't touch anything.
Works every time biggrin
