General reactions to your AM
Discussion
It has been a good week as, rather than going about town in my horrible diesel merc 4x4, I've spent most of it in the vantage. Every single day, I've had very positive reactions from people passing by.
From a white van man who pulled up beside me, halting traffic, to lean out and tell me how good it looks to a bloke who stopped serving coffee to come out from his cafe and ask about the engine. An old man in the petrol station wanted to touch it and some kids in the pub car park took photos of each-other around it (and one of the little scrotes sat on the bonnet to pose). I even had one girl tell me that in that car, I was giving her a wide-on!
I can't imagine you get this with many other car brands. People from all backgrounds just love AMs and I bet if I'd been driving round in a Porsche or Ferrari, I'd have had very different comments. Why is this?
Are there any other brand that gets the same reactions? I imagine Morgan and Maserati are the same.

What on earth is a wide ob???
I used to get excellent reactions in both my AMs but my ferrari gets a lot more attention and so far all of it very very positive. I can see why people might think that Fez drivers get scorned more than congratulated but it's not true, maybe because to Jo-schmo a fez is the more aspirational car.
(I disregard the one time I was thrown 80s style racist abuse as that would have happened in any flash car).

It's ok avinalarf, I understand envy can manifest itself in the weirdest ways. If we meet, I'll take the abuse but happily offer you a photo of you in my driver seat.

Think of it from a purely female perspective, kinda below waist but above knees.........
Got the picture?

I get mixed......had a guy hang out of his passenger window to tell me what a lovely car it was, but then have had some idiot in a base Audi A4 trying to race me. So far, I've found the attitude towards the Aston a lot colder than other cars I have.
Some people are just jealous and clueless (or both). There's an instant assumption that because you drive an Aston/Ferrari etc, then you must be fabulously rich, and therefore you must be a pr*ck, there's absolutely no appreciation that for most of us we've worked bloody hard to get these cars. It's a sad fact in the UK I think, that if you've worked hard and have nice things, then too many people want to put you down. I know our american cousins are the polar opposite, which is great. In the US, people (on the most part) congratulate you for doing well.
Kids seem to love it though

totally positive 100% of the time and very different positive reaction to say when I had the 911. I've had the car a year and still whenever it's on a garage forecourt filling up or driven on the road sense and see people looking and stopping.
Have to say I've not yet had the ultimate pleasure of being told its giving someone a wide on, but living in hope for that one!

I only encountered that twice in 5 years (and only in the UK!) and once was because I honked at someone as they carving me up.Some people are just jealous and clueless (or both). Seems to get a far better reaction than mates with porkers and Ferrari's.
Aston gets a fabulous reception ,but got identical in the gallardo and r8 ,the difference is I have noticed both the gallardo and r8 got huge attention from younger folk, the Aston gets more attention from older folk.
I have mixed reactions in ferraris and I wouldn't say negative about the many Porsches but not positive ,and don't pull up to a t junction in one and expect to get let out quickly! Whereas othe Aston people go out of their way to let you out.

Thanks Slarti,I'll take you up on that. Now if I see you in a 1950 Barchetta 275/340 or a 1956, 410 Superamerica my envy will have no bounds.

Why is this?
The beautiful shape of the cars - proportions, no unnecessary fittings.Made in Britain.
It is a sports car.
The sound.
The Company has struggled but surrvived for 100 years.
A restrained image.
Motor sport has always been important to the Company. 1959 Le Mans 1st and 2nd.
Oh, and a certain film series where the hero drives an Aston Martin.
Other sports car makers have some of these attributes, but not the whole list.
100% positive, seriously easy to get out of a busy junction, it's bizarre, and today I had a lady offer me her parking space!!!
The thing I found with regards the Aston which differentiates it from other supercars I have owned is that people who have no interest in cars will take the time out to say "nice car".

I hope that isn't a euphemism Andy! You know what Tony Hall has always said about the cars
The V12VR must be quite a bit noisier than my 9 was because on the way back from the NP auction yesterday it was amazing the number of passengers in other convertibles clearly heard us coming up behind them and were craning their necks to see what was coming up behind them

The other day filled the Aston up with fuel and the guy behind the counter said "taking no 17 out for a run?" I had completely forgotten that a few weeks ago it had been quiet and he had asked me about the car so I had told him about the V12VR's as he knew it was the normal Vantage. Never expected him to remember.
