Midnight blue - owners input/ feedback plse!
Discussion
Hi guys,
Am seriously considering (probably too seriously!) a DB9.2 Volante - the car is in Midnight (with Sandstorm) - we both think that this colour combo looks very 'classic' and classy and the dealer spec is pretty much exactly as I would have picked myself
One thing that is nagging me a bit though is what Midnight is like to livecwith once outside the showroom and after a bit of use. we are fortunate to already have a V12V (a keeper :-)) in Ceramic and one big '+' with the Ceramic is the depth and ' life' in the paint which (IMHO) helps elevate the whole car. I know that Midnight (as a Fast Track colour) does quite the same depth of finish etc. But under the showroom down lighters the finish seems to make any small blemishes (eg fingermarks) very obvious so concern is will it be too ' intensive' in the real world ( I'm a bit on the OCD side with clean cars - but that seems fairly normal round here!)
Sooo....Any feedback you guys could give me on life with Midnight would be greatly appreciated - Id like to make a call on the car in the next few days if I can the right deal agreed so it would be good to get my mind clear on this 'niggle'
TIA!
Andy

I have sapphire blue (looks like regular dark blue to me) and sandstorm. It's all subjective, but I did choose it because I thought it a classic look, and it makes the cabin a nicer place than black, to me. The blue isn't any worse than most colours when it's dirty. Yes, dirt shows but you can have a grey Aston and if it's dirty it also looks tired. And no matter how dirty, there is always some shine and lustre to the blue. I don't know about finger marks, my man opens the door for me and he wears white gloves.
My experience of the colour, from the detailing side of things is that it does show the marks in the paint more than others, especially compared to something like ceramic, as the metal flake content is a lot lower and of course, it's darker. The best colour of all for hiding swirl marks etc is lightning silver.
As with all things, there is a solution. If i were in your shoes, I'd have the car detailed to remove the swirls and marks in the paint, and then apply a glass/ceramic type sealant that will help prevent against putting the marks back in the paint and will make it easier to wash etc. Most people seem to be going for these types of sealants now. Get your v12 done too If you've not done so already, it's a stunning colour when it's been properly polished and protected.
If you need any advice, just drop me a message. I'm off to rescue another Aston now, after another 15 hour day on a v8 roadster yesterday. No rest for the wicked....

Shhh, don't promote Lightning Silver otherwise they will ALL want it and my car will be common as muck!As with all things, there is a solution. Have to agree though, over four years old and no swirls marks to marr it's beauty. Combination of lots of snow foam in two stages, three bucket washes , wookies fist, patting it dry rather than wiping, renewing wax on wax off pads etc etc. god I'm a martyr to it:

Black is OK if you look after it...
You forgot to add:...and never drive it or touch it with anything.
I love black cars. Still have a couple black Jags. But they do require enormous effort to make them look as good as a minimally cared for silver car. A light silver car is simply the easiest to keep looking good with the least effort. I'm sure that's why the most popular color for all cars is silver.
Please don't take your car out of the garage...just take lots of photos for us to drool over!
Guys,
Thanks for all your inputs and pics.
I'm happy to announce that the deal is done and collection is due week tomorrow - simply can't wait and already booked the first trip to the Alps
To put my mind at rest and do the Midnight proper justice, the car will get the full Paddy treatment over 2 days topped off with sealant so it should look - well - EPIC!
Pics promised of course
Cheers
