not much info but assume there will be a lagonda relaunch if it's mentioned in the article

If this is indeed what the Lagonda will look like, then it will be a big success for AML in the American/Chinese markets; much better than the compromised Rapide.

Why is that, do the Chinese and Americans like grotesque cars?

Quite simple. We buy 2 door sports/GT cars and 4 door saloons. The Rapide is neither. Rapide makes sense only in markets where there is s tendency to have 1 or 2 cars per family, so a single car that has a leg in both camps might be sensible. But here, we want proper 2 and 4 door cars, since the people buying Astons typically have multiple cars and therefore no need to compromise.

Oh, and it looks great to me!

I quite like it, albeit its only an artist rendition, so goodness knows what the end product might look like; in particular that picture doesn't appear to have quite the same flared rear wheel arches as the mule.

I rather like this and think it will be a worthy successor to the Lagonda line. You've got to realise that from the late 30's onwards Lagonda was not a sports car they were luxury saloons and cabriolets and to me this is a good looking example of that type of car.

As pointed out elsewhere though, I wonder whether Car magazine have taken their inspiration from two of the Zagato concepts shown at Kensington last Summer

So true. I expect most supercar owners are connoisseurs in one way or another but an Aston owner truly are an esthete. Like yourself of course.
The Lagonda we have seen in spy shots and the render in the OP's link looks like the complete opposite of 1.61803398875.
It appears they have given a nod to the old '76 model, I hope they expect to sell more than the 200 ish they managed last time.

Perhaps it's indicative of the new young owners that they have no feeling for those wonderful 70s William Downs Lagondas! And do please keep up at the back, the proposed car is a Lagonda not an Aston Martin so you've nothing to worry about. wink

I quite like a few cars in that "50 ugliest cars list" too. I always loved the design quirks of the Renault Twingo (the air vents were brilliant) smile

It was clearly a quiet news day, that or the editor challenged a newcomer to the desk to write an article about cars. Apart from the Lagonda it loses credibility when car like the DeLorean and BMW 7 Series are included and what did the Bond Bug ever do to offend anyone? biggrin

yes the more i like at that list the more i think the author doesn't have a clue. There are a few great designs in there, a few monsters and quite a lot of utilitarian cars, where frankly the design is neither here nor there.

I'm sure between us we could come up with some far worse atrocities - 'd put votes in for the lagonda SUV concept from last year, the previous generation Porsche Cayenne and the BMW X3

The more I look at this the more I think it's a good design. Bold, different and striking with a slight nod to the 70s shape. I rather like it.

^^^^ I agree. It looked a bit wonky to me at first but the design is starting to grow on me.

I so remember how everybody slated off the new Vanquish when we saw the first pictures of it on the narrow Italian street. I like the shape of that Lagonda just as always liked the shape of the new Vanquish. It will do well in both America and China which it is obviously aimed at

Very bold and I bet in the metal it will look fantastic. The proportions generally work well but the C pillar looks very high - probably to provide enough headroom for rear passengers.

I can half see the Maserati bi-turbo resemblance - thankfully it's better looking!

If it drives well, I would bet it's going to steal lots of sales from the Quattroporte, Flying Spur, S Class AMG and Audi S8 (admittedly not a big volume market).
