Is there a difference between SS and manual versions when it comes to wear&tear/fragility of the clutch (esp. when reversing/creeping)?

In the manual, you fubar the clutch from mechanically insensitive use.
In the ASM, the car fubar's the clutch from the users mechanically insensitive use.

Completely dependent on the operators mechanical sympathy/understanding, or lack of!

Right, I'm going to tread carefully whilst responding to your thread as I'm not really qualified to speak for V8's or manual/SS gearboxes. That said, I'm pretty sure the answer is SS wears quicker than manuals and it varies depending on the driver ability or lack of? smile

With SS, clutch learns are a must for maximum life and smooth use. You have no idea if the person before you knew this or ever did it, however I got 30K out a clutch before it failed (not through wear though) on an SS. Lots of reversing up slopes will kill it. Whereas a manual is easily destroyed by someone riding the clutch, so again all depends on use.

It is fair to say that a bit more knowledge of the nuances of SS is required to maximise the clutch life. All that said the SS is better for getaways biggrin

Did you not read my post confused Clutch learns (that are rarely done IMHO) and reversing up slopes due to the high reverse gear. Also I guess full throttle gear changes will shorten the life whistle

Yes I read that - does that mean that reversing uphill with the manual is less bad?

Actually - I cannot remember when I reversed uphill the last time.
