Breakdown cover?
Discussion
Just spoke to a couple of breakdown insurers and I'm not really getting what I want.
If my car (DB9) breaks down with most of the cover being offered (even Nationwide cover) they will take it to the nearest garage first and if they cant fix it then onto somewhere nationwide. That's probably not going to be an AM specialist! I don't want some cowboy garage saying they can fix the problem and then the car is left stuck there.
Its exactly the same with home start, they say they will just tow it to the nearest garage :/
A lot of the ads show they will tow anywhere but on questioning them them further over the phone, it seems they actually wont.
What are peoples thoughts/experiences with this?
Has anyone got cover that specifies that the car has to go to a AM specialist in the event of a break down?
Cheers
Alan

AA Homestart.
Had the engine making more smoke than a DB9 pipe smoking owner - i.e. lots! Called AA. They send a man out to confirm it needs to go to a garage. Tell him it needs to go to a well known independent - which is miles from me. They send a low loader out, who drive it to said Independent. Not quibbles, no arguments. I even have an AM dealer within 3 miles of me - AA happy to drive past them on the way to the Indy.

(even Nationwide cover)
When you say 'Nationwide cover', do you mean cover that includes the entire nation or cover provided by the Nationwide Building society?I have the latter ie 'free' European cover provided with a Nationwide FlexPlus account. I broke down recently (in a non-AM) and the cover included taking me home (from east London to Norwich!). The next day (because the breakdown occurred on a Sunday afternoon), another transport company picked up the car and took it to a local specialist (of my choice).
I can't see why the service offered would be any different with an Aston.
I can highly, highly recommend a Nationwide Flex Plus account. European breakdown cover, worldwide travel insurance and 'phone insurance, for the both of us, all for £10 a month. Bargain!

Free travel insurance with HSBC Premier - Locktons will cover your European breakdown.Santander 123 currently paying ME nearly £60 per month in interest / cashback.
Nationwide I keep for credit card facilities abroad - excellent exchange rate and unbeatable recently in Turkey

Some great feedback. Glad to see that people are getting a good service.
I actually meant national recovery, not nationwide. I used the wrong term. Just meant if a breakdown occurs they will tow it further than the local garage.
There are some very cheap breakdown insurance being offered by independent companies on the comparison websites. I know these days that the big companies such as green flag and AA use small independent recovery companies a lot now aswell.
The AA are a lot more expensive but if they have good reports I think ill give them a go.
