Is it worth having the seventh service from a main dealer
Discussion
Cars due for its next service only done 800 miles since the last service had a quote from jct leeds for £840 just seems a lot of money for the miles I've done does the car really need it would it make a difference to the resale value if I went to an independent I know everybody will say I should drive it more to justify it but just don't get the time cheers
If you've only done relatively low mileage, are you sure that you need all of the elements of the service?
Pollen filters & air filters can realistically be changed on condition. Does that price include changing the spark plugs? (The experts say that plugs only need to be changed on mileage, not age. The dealer will probably tell you differently). And, finally, how about taking your own oil with you? That alone will probably save you £100 on AM prices.

Having only done 800 miles, it will not need a service.
All you will need to do is check fluid levels and tyre pressures etc, changing fluids at that mileage is a complete waste of money. If top quality oil was used, it will have a 3 year life anyway at that mileage.
Most of the other service items will be checked every MOT anyway.

I agree with Bravo there (unless the OP plans on keeping it a long time). The car may not NEED a service, but any buyer will expect to see it, and if its missing I (they) would worry that the owner had skimped on maintenance.
My DB9 is now up to its 6 year service and I'm taking it out of the main dealer network. Two factors there though. First I'm planning on keeping it a while so a main dealer stamp becomes less valuable over time. Second, I suspect I'm going to get a far better service from an indy

This rigid time rather than milage based servicing really is such a nonsense. Most synthetic oils are incredible compared to old mineral oils that really did need changing every 6000 miles. A similar synthetic oil lasts 17000 miles in my condition based service twin turbo filthy oil burner! Yet I am faced with binning many litres of yellow clean perfectly serviceable oil that has only done 3000 miles in order to maintain the warranty/stamp.
I think what is important in a service is checking levels especially transaxle/gearbox as well as a general condition check (especially if the owner isnt in the habit of checking his garage for oil drips etc). An oil change at low miles usage is unnecessary in my opinion.
This said, yes a FSH has value so I think the owner will have to use his own dipstick to make the call!
I would never ever shy away from car with a known Indy service history, but does anyone have concerns/experience of an Indy struggling without the full Monty Aston diagnostic kit?
Cheers
Ken

Neil - yes do it, and that price is not bad for a major service that still includes plugs (???) and they will collect / return the car for you. I used JCT for all my servicing (bar 1 at an Indy) and the experience was good.It certainly does not NEED a service but if you were to dispose of it to a Dealer they would probably reduce their offer to you by £1200 or so due to the missed service.
I know us Jocks are tight but you Yorkshiremen take the whippet

maybe does not need one, but will it knock £700 off resale price or not...tricky question. No doubt it would make the car more difficult to sell, and give dealers an excuse to give you a rock bottom trade in price
is £700 saving worth the hassle come resale ...up to you to decide that one
