V12V tyres and oil
Discussion
Have treated my car to new boots all round at 8,700 miles. Bought Michelin Pilot PSS for £780 from Tyreleader (had been recommended to me by my son Shmee, but don't have any connection or previous dealings with them). Ordered online, had them delivered to my local preferred tyre shop who could not get near the price but were willing to fit for a fee. All went well. Delighted by this price which was a lot lower than when I enquired a few months ago.
The original Corsas were ready to change at the back. When they came off I saw that an inside edge was well worn. Is that typical? The fronts had quite a bit of life left, but I wanted to change type and decided to have the same all round. Hoping that the PSS's will be much better in winter, will last longer, and maybe be a bit quieter.
Now oil. Checked it today, and it was at the bottom of the flat section on the dipstick. Put in 1 litre (Mobil 1 0 - 40) and it was still only half way up the flat, so put in a second litre. On most cars from bottom mark to top mark is only 1 litre. What do others find. I have done 5k miles since I bought it. In that time I have put 1 litre in before this, and it has had a service. What experiences have others had?

Hi there,
I would leave it overnight to allow the oil to settle, then check and top up if required.
I've hit in total 7.5k miles in mine and have topped up with I reckon 0.75ltr of Mobile 1 0-40, outside of annual servicing. According to the owners manual is approx 1ltr between min and max mark.
I can't comment on whether your oil consumption is excessive, but hope this gives you a starting point and others can chime in.

They are designed and expected to use oil if when driven they are pushed a bit, the DBS has just over 12 litres capacity and 1 litre will not cover min to max, don't think you can talk generally on volume between limits on the dip stick.
Mine doesn't use oil between services if driven normally on our roads but on a recent trip to the continent and round the ring it used a few litres.
Always best to keep an eye on the level and run it to the max volume for maximum lubrication

The OP has a V12V so he wasn't talking generally but was answering the question. Mine doesn't use oil between services if driven normally on our roads but on a recent trip to the continent and round the ring it used a few litres.

Did near on 5,000 miles in my V12V and it didn't use a drop of oil so it is a bit of a generalisation to say they are designed to use oil. Not all V12 engines use oil.

Waremark - I need some soon too and was thinking of Michelins as that site has cracking prices. Can get the rears 295/35 R20 105Y but cant get the front 245/40 R20 95Y in the same Pilot Super Sport? Do I have an 'odd' front size on the Rapide? Cheers
V12V is on 19 inch rims not 20s.Gassing Station | Aston Martin | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
