Has anyone got an unwanted auto dimming mirror lying around or nearside wing mirror arm for Vantage V8V? Am I right in saying that all the wiring is behind the existing mirror? (no auto dimming)
Or know of any equivalent part from Ford or Jaguar?

Almost all auto-dimming mirrors are made by the OEM supplier, Gentex, which also has many varieties of aftermarket mirrors for the consumer market. The wiring is already in the header rail for model years that had the dim feature available as an option. The biggest problem is the mounting of the mirror. Almost all mirrors use a ball and socket articulation for adjustment, but the Aston mirror is opposite from every other design as far as which part has the ball and which one has the socket. I was able to adapt using parts from another mirror but it is by no means a trivial project. It is mush easier to buy the OEM part from a dealer.

They come up occasionally on EBay or AstonMartinBits.
It is very easy to fit and plug in to the existing wiring when you find one.

My thoughts exactly, worth waiting for one to come up as I am not that desperate.

I had one in my previous roadster and hated it
Doesn't dim enough for my liking
Didn't spec it in the new on

The newer generation Gentex mirrors are a little better. I got mine mostly because I wanted Homelink. In fact, sometimes I thought the mirror was too dark and I would shut it off to prevent it from dimming. You can get all sorts of options including versions that have temperature and/or compass displays as well as an integrated LCD color display that can be interfaced with a backup and/or forward-facing camera.

I noticed the display for a rear view camera, might have a look at that
