That is even more unfair than unmarked police cars. There should be an entrapment law that bans the use of covert speed cameras.

Even if all motorists obeyed the speed limit, the Govt would keep lowering the limits to maintain their revenue stream. Gotta pay for their gilt- edged pensions somehow

Are there any particular parts of the Country they are operating?

i'm not in favour of these either but it's hardly entrapment catching someone committing a crime.

Entrapment is unmarked M3 BMW's baiting people by sitting up other performance car's asses then tugging them when the pissed off owner decides to down a few cogs and drop them.

(urban rumour - Dual carriageway leading into chelmsford, essex)

True, entrapment was the wrong word. That said, a marked up police car cruising down a road does more to prevent crime that this roof box that will allow speeding crimes to be committed and creating a danger to the public.

The overriding remit of every police force in the UK is to prevent crime. This does nothing to prevent it, whereas a marked up car does prevent it, even for a brief moment in time.

At least if the police car is marked you can smile as you flash them to get out of the way...... Or is that wrong???

This thread needs to move to the speed law plod section.

Visible deterrents prevent localised crime near where they are visible. In Staffordshire they have turned off just about every fixed camera and have adopted lots more mobile speed traps some more visible than others, as all the cameras did was cause a local slow down. The Evo triangle is alleged to often have a horse box with a mobile speed camera in it. If you know these things may exist then you may drive slower as you have doubt where they are. Not sure whats so hard to understand.

ps.. I didn't say I liked them, or agreed with them.

Or, you spend too much of your time and concentration looking for horseboxes, roofboxes and vans in sidings and on bridges rather than concentrating on the road itself.

nono That's the last thing that needs to happen, the sanctimony and cock-socketry in there should be well avoided.

I'm worried its happening here! Let the sanctimony stay where it belongs.. elsewhere!

(I've got my pistonhead word/phrase bingo card ready.. Speed awareness course, better brakes, revenue generators, "I concentrate better when I'm driving fast", speed limits are bringing this country to a standstill, nothing to do with safety and my favourite from over there was "why do you think the impact speed will be higher in an accident if I'm driving faster")

edited: And Jeff.. as you know neither of us went above 60 anywhere on the welsh weekender wink

Nowhere near as bad, there's a few grains of truth in some of those statements though, I don't think anyone will agree on this particular subject.

Dave, thanks for sharing that horrible family roof box !
They use these undercover cameras in France, generally in Clio's and small French made cars. The give away is they are mostly dark blue cars.

I agree, but it's the same old problem, never a Kalashnikov when you need one.
