Completely off topic, but we're moving back to the UK next year and are looking for a place to live. Shropshire seems to be good value. I know Ludlow, but any other nice small towns or villages to recommend? Could be a bordering county, but that sort of area..........any tips will be gratefully received!

Don't do it! wink

Ludlow is nice if a bit pricey and busy, GREAT food though smile
My business is 5 miles up the road, it can be a PITA to get to especially if there is trouble on the A49
I actually live 30 mins north near Shawbury and really like the area (other than when Bincenzo does his fly bys at 20ft :eek3: )
If I was looking again I'd take a good look around Much Wenlock and Church Stretton.
Far more scenic than Ludlow and better access to M54 or M6
There's a few Astonauts lurking in Shropshire, some great roads and often overlooked (which suits me fine wink )

Bordering county you say? Come south to Herefordshire - you'll meet the nicest people! As an example of Herefordshire life this was the view from my office window today:

The hops are being gathered and tomorrow I shall be able to see a lot more sky - maybe even a little glimpse of Wales in the distance (& we all know how lovely and tempting those Welsh roads can be don't we yes) biggrin

Im on the Shropshire Staffordshire border. Depends what balance of things you want - I'm 15 min from Stafford station which in only 80mins to London, m6 North, South, m6 toll road all near - as I often joke the best thing about where I live is how quickly you can get a long away from the place. Wales and great driving roads are less than an hour west.

Ludlow, Shrewsbury etc are all more attractive but would add 30 mins+ to my commute. Iron bridge and bridgenorth are reasonably quaint but a bit too close to Telford.

Shropshire is lovely, its where I was born and raised (well the latter part just over the border) and I'm a shining example of any local *ahem*

I only really know North Shropshire but some of the nicest places are (all imo)
Shrewsbury
Iron Bridge
Bridgnorth
Babbinswood

There's some great scenery around as well, the aqueduct for instance and across the border in Wales you have Lake Vyrnwy, Llanrhaeadr Waterfall. All of which have stunning roads to drive smile

Love Shropshire!

Went to college at Wrekin (now Telford) and we used to have a quarry at Much Wenlock.

Ironbridge, Much Wenlock, Ludlow, Church Stretton etc., are all stunning and some amazing countryside.

Lucky you!

I currently live in Shropshire. It is epic. The roads are also epic if you know where you are going. The are some immense b road if you have a nimble car.

If you want to move to really beautiful county where the air is fresh, the beer does not get served with lemonade in it..... and we really do have the best roads on our doorstep

then it has to be Lancashire.
