Took the car out to go for some shopping this morning and all was fine. It's been sat outside the house since and I just jumped in it to go for a drive, absolutely will not go in to any gear. I've never had a clutch failure on a car before but I'm assuming that's what it is? I only bought the car something like a month ago, so needless to say I'm a bit gutted as I know it's something like a £2.5k job. Can anyone give me any guidance on if they think that's what it is before I phone Aston Martin in Edinburgh?

Thanks.

Looks like yours is a 4.3 manual?
What does the clutch pedal feel like?
Could be a simple hydraulic failure, any fluid under the car?

There was a similar thread only a few days ago about a user with exactly the same symptoms / situation that you've described. Unfortunately it was a clutch spring that had popped off / broken so was indeed a new clutch job frown

Find a specialist... It's around £3.5k at Edinburgh Aston IIRC

Edinburgh Aston have a technician en route now to look at the car, dealership I bought it from have said that they'll foot the bill so it's all looking at least promising. I'll update in a bit, still gutted though!

EDIT:

Technician has been and gone, might not be the clutch but the gearbox. Car gets taken in to the workshop Monday and then we'll go from there. A bit heartbreaking on a car I've owned less than a month. Hopefully the dealer who sold it to me will be good to their word and cover whatever repair is required, which I think they will. Obviously with a major fault so soon after sale there are other options open to me, but hopefully it won't come to that.

Sorry to hear your having problems with your car. Mine was the V8 with the recent clutch failure mentioned earlier. It was a spring that had come out so it was classed as a mechanical failure and not wear. If you have a warranty with your car and if something has snapped or broken in the gearbox or clutch then I would hope the warranty would cover it. Hopefully the dealer who sold it will make sure everything gets sorted. As for the price, the new clutch was £2k fitted at McGurk and I also opted to have a new flywheel fitted and an additional £400.

Hope you get it sorted

It's spooky that you should've posted that just as I've logged in to update! I need a new clutch, flywheel and something else (the phone cracked up a bit on the third point!) so we seem to have had the same issue. AM reckon it'll all be done by the weekend, they've spoken to the dealer who sold me the car and they've said they'll foot the bill for everything. I've went from being gutted on Friday to delighted today, I've never been so happy that one of my cars has broken down.

What a result! Great news that it's being fixed, even better that it's for free. thumbup

Well just a quick post to close this one out! Have just collected my Vantage from Edinburgh AM and was handed a nice little bill for £2965.82, all paid in full by the dealership who sold me the car. Have to tip my hat to the dealer, he offered to pay before I could even ask and settled the bill as soon as the car was ready. My expectations of second hand car salesmen are generally quite low, this has gone some way to tipping the scales. Lovely to have her back.

And great result (in return for a bit of hassle) new clutch paid for! Enjoy the weekend in it smile
