New owner and noticed something recently and I can't remember if it's new or not..

Is it correct that once the key is turned to ignition and the System Check is complete that the Oil Pressure light remains on (which also triggers the engine light)?

Once the engine is started both lights go out and remain out.

The procedure to get the oil pressure up and turn the light off does work (full throttle, ignition, start) but turn the ignition off and on again and the lights are back on.

I found a thread on AMOC where a couple of people say theirs does this but maybe we all have a problem. Am I going crazy or do they all do this? The manual isn't much help.

Yes, you can hold the throttle fully down and crank the car to build up oil pressure which will result in the oil light going out. Its not usually a needed procedure but one I do if I've not driven/started the car for a couple of weeks.

I have never cranked it, got the oil light to go out, then turn off/ back on again. Not sure why I ever would

So the ignition oil light being on after the system check is normal behaviour and that cranking should only really be necessary if the car has been sat for a month or so?

Seems weird to have it come on when the crank isn't necessary, for instance 5 minutes after a 30 min drive. Aston quirk perhaps.

The oil pressure (OP) light is only controlled by a pressure switch, so when the engine isn't running (or if there is a pump problem), the light will be on whenever the ignition is on.

The engine check light (CEL) is on by default when the ignition is switched on and goes out once the engine starts and diagnostics complete.
The startup diagnostics (obviously) can't complete until the engine is running - even if all that is left to do is check oil pressure...

Most cars are like this - it's just some don't have a separate OP light.

Thanks for clearing that up, I just couldn't remember if it was a new light appearing and got a little paranoid smile
