V8 Vantage 4.3 popping and backfire

Took my 08 Vantage out today and noticed (not for the first time) the occasional pop/backfire on changing down through the mid-gears. It's not overly prominent and the car goes in for service in a couple of months. So, not a major concern but my question is whether or not this is common? As ever, grateful for your words of wisdom!

The 4.3 back box is a favoured "upgrade" with BR headers and sports cats because it does this and is not too loud

The popping and 'back firing' is one of the best bits. Made even better with uprated exhaust manifolds and 200 cell cats.

Yep, absolutely normal James, nothing to worry about. In fact, quite the opposite. It gets even better with 200 cell cats, a real good pop and crackle. Hope you're still enjoying the car.

That's one of the things I love hearing - don't change it!!!!

Although, of course, excessive popping and banging can be indicative of a fuel/air problem or the possibility of an air leak. Most likely these would throw a CEL on, but not always. I suppose it depends on how much your car is farting around back there.

Definitely not excessive and Little Donkey has it bang on... (forgive the pun) a little lift off and I get the odd crackle and pop. Never said I din't like it(!) and just wanted to be sure. Binns, as for the ownership experience, I can only say that it's getting better and better! A brilliant car and love it to bits. And my wife thought I was going to grow out of it Silly woman

i am pretty sure but if you drive one and dont make it do that, by law you have to hand the car back in.

Hey guys- I found this thread searching for popping and cracking with my 07 Vantage. I love the described above unfortunately my sound isn't this.

More noticeable in 1st and 2nd gears I'm hearing a loud intermittent crack/pop during acceleration. When the wheels are really feeling the torque... sometimes a little in 3rd gear but mostly in 1st and 2nd. The sound isn't congruent with tire revolutions.

Any advice would be great!

Looks like no one here has had the problem. Best to get it into a dealer / specialist.
How long has it been doing this?
