Just got my insurance renewal in from Direct Line (other insurance companies are out there!) for £509 for next year for my 09 V8V, the missus decided to check a price comparison site and the best quote came in at £148.00, first reaction was that this is way too cheap to be true. So I then went onto DL and made a new insurance quote enquiry and it came in at £221.00 for the exact same policy as my current one.

• Fully Comp
• Protected NCD
• Additional Driver (spouse)
• Legal cover
• Rescue Plus Recovery
• 5k miles PA

Needless to I called them to check it was correct and am happy to say I renewed there and then with them saving nearly £300.00. Also saved over £100 with the wifes X6 doing the same thing!!

Thats typical of the insurance companies. Give you a quote OTT and then knock it down if you call them or hesitate. I expect there are millions of drivers out there, especially the more "mature" ones who struggle with the internet who just pay up for the ease of renewal.

I really get annoyed at the ones who assume you are going to renew with them and just bautomatically take the next years premium.....for your convenience, and their pockets.

Had the same with home insurance too.

Still can't get over £221.00 for a circa £50k car!! Had a 205GTI when I was 21 and was paying £1200 a year! And that was more than 21 years ago!!!

It didn't include the Roadside Recovery Plus - used it early this year when the battery was flat and the Greenflag guy who came told me if he couldn't get the car going he would take it to the nearest AM garage which is160!! miles away, DL quote without it was £152.

My renewal came in this month, £357 to insure my snotter 306! Obviously went on the comparison sites and got it down to £209, phoned unsure and they were only to happy to requote, the result - £356 haha. Was tempted but moved the business.

My V8V costs @ £320 and the chiefs Diesel Golf @£360 with the usual annual negotiating / best price shenanigans. For some reason the Aston has been my cheapest car to insure ever.

As long as you don't plan on making a claim, this is great. But your experience may change if you ever had to make a claim...

I just went from paying £650 for my old B5 RS4 to paying £340 for my V8V. Pretty pleased with that.

Why would you think that? It was with Direct Line and all information provided to them is accurate & honest.

Found them very hard to believe too, but checked with a couple of different online search engines and the top prices all came in at a similar cost. After calling DL they told me it was probably a combination of postcode, car parked in locked garage, social use only, low annual usage, age, 9 years+ NCD etc, etc.

But you live in a poor area surrounded by socially dis-advanteged people - lots of crime = high insurance costs.

You have misunderstood. No assertions of wrong doing in terms of information supply. But just try making a claim and see how much time and effort you expend.

It's the old fashioned "underwrite at claim" process. So you'll get the whole thing about using the repair shop and paint shop they recommend.

Me, I'd rather pay a bit more and get a quality experience when I make a claim. Each to their own...

I’m with Admiral and was concerned about the discussions on here regarding use of non AM repair centres.

So thought I would give Adrian Flux a shot at renewal time......after two or three wasted calls, none of which were returned...... I gave up.
So renewed with Admiral for £370 I’ll have to deal with the repair issue if it ever arises.
