The PAS pump on my V8 Vantage has got noticeably louder over the past few months. Can anyone offer any tips on replacing it? I havent really investigated yet, so not sure how easy it is to release the aux belt tension or disconnect the pipes from the pump.

If it's all too difficult I'll put it in to the AM dealer, but it feels like something I should be able to do!

Thanks

Are you sure it's the pump?
There is a service bulletin for a squeaky-whine whenever you turn the wheel, they change the fluid and add a lubricant as the seal gets noisy.

There can also be a vibration when cold, especially turning hard right - I think that is down to fluid levels.

I had both and the noises went away after the fluid change - this was a free update if it has not been done before.

If you do need a new pump, it should be no more difficult than doing one on a Mondeo. Access is probably easier.

Hi Simon, cheers for that. I think it is the pump though - was mentioned in passing at last service!

Simonpa. What is the SB number for the issue you describe please? I get a whine also and when I asked at the dealer i got the shrug of the shoulders and the "all Astons do that" reply.

Thanks

I'll see if I can find the advisory I was given - I think it was SB-11-0300 (service bulleting for steering whine from the column.
I was also told that a louder growl/judder when turning hard when cold could be treated with a flush of the PAS fluid and re-bleed (basically turn lock-to-lock 20 times).

I had noticed both issues and the flush and added lubricant (lubrisol?) for the whine sorted both.

Cheers - Simon
