Hi all,

My V12 seems to have a leaky bum, the base of the boot is a bit damp so I obviously have a leak, feeling around the sides are all dry so I'm at a bit of a loss as to where the water is coming from.... anyone had this?

I guess I'll have to climb in the boot and someone hose the car if I can't trace it

Thanks

Dave

It's usually getting in around the lights. As it comes down behind the carpeting, it's not easy to see/feel where it comes in.

You can pull the carpeting away quite easily - unscrew the big domes and lift up the boot seal.
check if there are any obvious tracks on the bodywork inside the boot.
If not, push some paper towels around/under the lights, replace the boot seal and try a hose.

That could make sense, one of the rears has a bit of condensation and the car was left parked "nose down a hill".

Winter project is to split the light, dry and reseal so I best do the seals between that and the body too.

Thanks!

Condensation in light will be a separate issue. Have a look at the drain holes in the boot lid itself. Chances are if you leave the car outside they are blocked, water leaks in over the locking mechanism in the center hence the sides are dry.
Just a thought.

Thanks again.

I need to get the FSM as previous cars I've had always had pretty detailed diagrams of drains on the car. She's safely in the garage for most of the winter now so I can spend some time sorting out the gremlins. Maybe some nice glass buttons too smile

The rear light fits through 3 holes in the rear of the car and the lights come with neoprene washers to seal the holes (poor design IMO).
The water will be entering through the 3 holes and this has nothing to do with the condensation actually inside the light itself (they are supposed to be sealed units)
Very common for them to get condensation, there is a service bulletin to drill a hole dry the inside of the light and re seal.
I tried it on mine without success

Thanks for the reply. Boot is currently drying out, I'll be home in a couple of weeks so will check all of that. The condensation is a bit of an annoying one but alas there could be worse issues smile
