Hello, all. I'm Mike from the Indianapolis area in the American Midwest, and I have an '06 DB9 Volante, titanium silver/black.
I'm probably the prototypical Aston guy: I've owned Triumph, Austin Healey, Lotus, Porsche, and a bunch of other stuff, but I'm now 62 and finally have an Aston.
As I've "matured," my interests have shifted a bit. I want something I can enjoy with my wife, hence the DB9 model and the Volante option. I want something that feels almost as good when I'm NOT driving it. I want something that is serious but not on the "bleeding edge." And I want something that delivers enough of a thrill without demanding that I'm at 10/10ths at all times.
I'm very happy with my DB9 Volante. The last time I was this satisfied with how a car matched my life, it was a 1974 Lotus Europa Special. But that was a different kind of car, and I was a different kind of man back then...

I love the write-up. I hope you and your wife enjoy the car in good health.
Sounds very similar to the one I had. Loved it. Wish I could justfy another alongside my 430.

A very nicely written piece Mike, well said. Welcome to the forum, a great place for advice and banter. Clearly we need some photos of your car! Them's the rules I'm afraid.

some like the little V8 beginners car because they haven't saved up enough for a proper Aston......then they pretend they really like the "Porsche Boxter" version of the Aston Martin range but we all know the truth smile

Alternatively some of us, when we get into our 60s, see the light, get rid of the bulky V12 and have a proper driver's sports car with a V8 engine. (Sits back and waits to be flamed) hehe

Nice car Zuman, same colour as my DB9.

And I too owned a Lotus Europa, mine was a 1970 S2, that was in 1981, it was quite a car for an 18 year old upstart.

Lovely car for those long hot summers you have over there.

Mmmm driving across USA in that, roof down in the summer ...there's a nice thought as the cold nights set in.

Hi Zuman,

Similar deal to you, old man (55) own(ed) other British sports cars , wife finds our Aston Martin DB7 Vantage Volante utterly irresistible and very suitable for drives out together.

I got a manual 6 speed so cobwebs can be well blown away when driving by myself.
