Does anyone know the Ford equivalent part number for the 4G43-3A696-AA PAS pump for (2007) DB9? Mine has developed a bit of a whine at only 20K miles, and my independent wants to replace it, along with a through cleaning of the system to the best extent possible in order to remove any contamination. He claims that fluid failure is the cause...

I'd try a decent re-gas first - they evacuate/lube/fill (normally 2 cycles).
Usually costs about £40.

If this doesn't help, it's only cost you £40.
If it works, you've saved a grand..

Re-gas a power steering pump? I guess you read aircon pump by mistake, or perhaps there is something I have missed.

To the OP, you are sure it is definitely a standard Ford part? A lot of 'bin items' have the Ford or volvo part number on them. Items specific to AM tend not to. There are fairly cheap items (even from Nicholas Mee) with a bit of GOOGLING.

I'd be tempted to have it done with genuine AM parts, but that's just me. I can't imagine the price would be that different (stands by to be proved horribly wrong), but how far do you go with the sourcing of parts that might just fit? All in my humble opinion of course.

On both the DB7V and DB9, the PAS pulley has a Ford part number. And the accessories do share much with the Duratec/Mondeo architecture. The V12 really does have its roots in two Duratec V6s. While the block was morphed into an aluminum (aluminium) deep skirted design by way of Cosworth, dimensionally it is Duratec. Accessories, rods, pistons all fit. Anyhow, someone here will know the equivalent part number in the Ford bins...or will have a loose PAS pump and can read the the cast part number off of it...just need the right person to view this thread...

As it has a 4G43 part number, it is likely to be customised in some way to fit, could just be the pulley, but even so, it doesn't look like a standard Ford part.
The part has now been changed and the latest part is "AD", should be circa £400 + VAT from a dealer, you don't want to know what they cost AML.

I realize the assembly is bespoke; however, the pulley has a Ford part number. I know that I ordered a replacement for my DB7 and it was identical. Think it was a Mustang fitment in that instance. The tube and its associated bracket may be bespoke...but that has a threaded fitting and can be swapped as well. The base pump is most likely a standard, high volume piece that I expect to cost $100-200.

It is not a badge of honor for me to pay a very high margin premium for identical or superior parts that can be sourced elsewhere.... :-)

Be careful - the number cast onto the part is usually just that (ie the casting number). The casting may be differently machined for different applications - and each variant will subsequently be given a unique part number, which is not the casting number.

The DB9 has like a handful of unique parts.

It is cobbled together by a bunch of other peoples random parts, seen it too many times now when working on the car.

Your best bet is to take the pump off and get the Ford number off it.

Oops - sorry!

When you say whine - is this from the pump, or when you turn the steering wheel?
If the latter, there is a Service Bulletin to cover this - basically drain/refill and add a lubricant..

Thanks Simon! Do you happen to have a copy of that service bulletin...or know of the bulletin number? If I read it right, one would drain the old fluid, refill with the recommended PAS fluid...then put an additive in?

BTW - What is the recommendation for PAS fluid? I recall that the spec is somewhat vague. And, if there is an additive, what is it?

Many thanks!

SS972 - appreciate identifying the pump number and manufacturer. Doe you know if the same part applies on any other vehicles?

I got the additive from Mercedes as it's just down the road for a fiver.

Bulletin is here https://www.dropbox.com/s/9lrqf1kqgn10nr0/pas%20.p...

Fluid I got from Halfords, it's CF11s fluid and it cost £7.50 a litre.

Unfortunately, I don't think the noise I hear is a squeak from the power steering rack. Rather it is the whine of a hydraulic pump. Fairly sure it is pump related...

Soooo....do you think it is worth a drain, flush and refill..or is a whining power steering pump all done? AAnd what about that Lubrizol additive? Any potential with that?

There are numerous companies that refurbish the pumps for a fraction of new price. I would only suspect the fluid if someone has incorrectly refilled the system with "POWER STEERING FLUID" instead of the CHF11 CENTRAL HYDRAULIC FLUID.

This is a common error on BMW cars and I see numerous failures of the pump because of it.

The fluid should be an opaque green colour and not red as most PAS fluids are.
