Is that a good buy? Even if you put 30k into it, as long as its not been registered, it should be a potential bargain. Either that, or a complete waste of money.

I went through the same thought process, but a cat d on something like that is not desirable

Shame to see a vanquish in that state, more so because it looks like it was well cared for, sympathy for ex owner who must be gutted.

the damage being cosmetic or not, the cat D label will hang over its head and detract value for ever. There are some very good examples of similar age / mileage on market now for sub 60k, and guessing likely parts, paint and labour bill, its difficult to figure the all up spend coming in at much less to live with cat D legacy. But on surface is heck of a car for the price and in reality the damage being purely cosmetic its no real horror story. Unlike some cars we have seen advertised where the write off car should stay off the road, here, if the parts were obtained cheap, the labour rates friendly and good paint blend instead of full respray, then is opportunity for good non commercial type purchase and project spreading costs. But is choice of heart over head imo

If it was a db5 or a series 1 e-type, I don't suppose the cat D would matter that much, but I wonder long you would you have to hold on to this one for it not to matter?

Still seems a lot of car for the money.

The exhaust pipes are out of alignment, damage could be more serious than it appears.

My thoughts exactly. The old restored motors at works must have some pretty comprehensive repairs carried out and on some classics I notice you have the option of a restored original chassis or a new one. If this was someones dream car and a keeper I think its a bargain and could be repaired for not too silly amounts.

the words vanquish, repair, not too silly amounts dont normally appear same sentence i am used to, vanquish repairs can be eye watering due to parts prices.

The rear quarter is cat A part / approved cat A repairer can only purchase (there maybe second hand bits on market but normally are troublesome, such as body panels needing rectification prior to fit), and Together with door, sill front wing and boot lid, just in the damage you can see is £12k parts new at full rrp. Paint at £8k time / materials, labour for whole job about 60 hours / approx £5k and best case fag packet repair plus purchase price is ballpark £61k. There are some good examples on market £10k cheaper, meaning at numbers stated it only makes financial sense if second hand parts DIY at home repair. But my experience of many guys who take on such projects, when they arrive at the end, they wished they had just bought a straight example in first place.

for me, value of car is £20k but worth more in bits and the best return for vendor would be stripped in parts
