as i went on another Extended drive today to break in my rapide s, i was experiencing some whistling noise emanating from the passengers side window (LHD car).
i stopped the car to check all the rubber insulation. nothing to be found. i checke all the exterior Panel gaps and they all look perfect.

then upon inspecting from the interior, i noticed great discrepancies in the Panels of front and rear doors between Drivers and passengers side.
where a certain gap would almost fit a whole finger, the corresponding gap on the other side would be much tighter. this i noticed around all the panlels of the front and rear doors on the interior.

does this go down as 'Hand built' ?

i am new to aston, and this rapide s is my first. i love the car and truly enjoy driving it. but those gaps made me scratch my head a Little.

car was delivered to me totally new 2 months ago and all esle is great except for the rough cold idle that the dealer promised to fix.

i have never seen such discrepancies in the gaps in any of my german cars, be it bmw's, amg's or Porsche.

to the bare naked eye, they would not be noticeable, but to a car nut they are all there and very obvious.

Wow that sounds Bad. Even good old TVR's don't have gaps that big.And I've had several.
their build quality was crap. As for the wind noise.I would not expect that too. My Vantage don't have any wind noise.
Dave.
Worth a phone call me thinks.

Interior door card gaps should be the same left and right. If not, it suggests that the ones with the large gaps were removed and not correctly re-installed. It is easy to trap some of the window/puddle light wiring between the bottom of the panel and the door when re-installing if you don't pay attention, and this results in the card being held away from the door...especially noticeable at the back edge of the panel from the middle on down.

Is the noise from around the RH exterior mirror?

the car was delivered to me brand new. so nothing was removed and reinstalled.

when looking at the passenger door from within the car for example, the margins between door cladding in some Areas are wider or tighter than on the Drivers side.
nothing is wrong with the car ist just the Panels are not exactly the same.

i will take some pics.

so i have attached some pics, that hopefully give an indication as to what i was referring to.

as for the windnoise on the front passenger side, i found that when closing the door, the small Delta window is crushing some of the weatherstrip.
i did the reset procedure for the window, but even while the Delta window does lower and rise it still crushes part of the weatherstrip.

if i first Close the door, then lower the window and raise it again, it seals fine and the watherstriping sits correctly between the pillar and the glass.

i guess to fix this, the weatherstrip will have to be replaced, unless there is a way to program the Little Delta window to lower slightly further until door is closed.

Just seen this - will have a look on the weekend on mine. Seems the door card is a slightly different shape in some cases so doesnt follow the contours properly?

Have you spoken to the dealer yet about your concerns - which most people have recommended - and if so what was there response?

I wouldn't have thought so - these are all set shapes and templates rather than one offs from a company once legendary for opulent interiors wink
