SS III Intermittent fault
Discussion
It appears the SS3 on my V12S has developed an intermittent fault. I've previously had two occasions, when pushing on a bit, where the gear box has started "pulsing" following a gear change i.e. repeatedly engaging and disengaging the clutch, a shift up stopped it on both occasions. Then more recently I've had (on two occasions) the clutch simply not engaging when a gear is shown as selected, one occasion was at a roundabout and it was very fortunate there was't any traffic coming otherwise things may have gotten nasty!
The car is in for a service today and have told them about the fault, but I suspect they're going to struggle to reproduce the issue. So, has anyone else here had similar issues with SS transmissions? If so would be good to hear what the fault was so that I can pass the info onto the garage.
Thanks,
John.

I've a ASM2 and I've had 2 occasions when its thrown itself into neutral and come up saying "No gear is available". I've rolled to a halt, stopped the engine, restarted and its been OK. As you say, a bit unnerving.
First time it happened was almost exactly a year ago (it was on the way back from Shelsey Walsh breakfast club) and I was being a bit enthusiastic at the time. It didn't do it again for ages so I put it down to one of those things. It did it once more recently.
Be interested to see what they say as I've not spoken to a dealer about it.
I've not noticed a pulsating clutch thing you mention.

I am sure I have an AM Service Bulletin for ASM 2 drivability issues (and solutions), I will look it out and see if it mentions anything about thisFirst time it happened was almost exactly a year ago (it was on the way back from Shelsey Walsh breakfast club) and I was being a bit enthusiastic at the time. Thanks - its got to go in soon for the heated seat recall so if there is a solution it would give me some peace of mind
I have had a quick look and to be honest it could be one of many ASM fault codes, for instanceP0641 - Transmission Sensor Supply Voltage
P0641 - Transmission Sensor Supply Voltage too High or too Low.
MIL status
This code will not light the MIL, but may display a red triangle in the driver informationdisplay saying "Fault, no gear change possible" accompanied by three warning tones, at whichtime neutral will be engaged and gear shifts will be disabled.
If your car is going in for a recall then mention it to the dealer and they will check for DTC's (i.e. as detailed above which will be stored in the cars memory)
In my case there are no warning lights and the box isn't indicating that it's gone into neutral or that there are no gears available, it still shows the selected gear.
Dealer has said that AMDS isn't showing any issues and, unsurprisingly, they couldn't reproduce.
This is basically making the car dangerous (as in no when pulling out of a junction with oncoming traffic).
BTW latest SW was flashed a couple of months ago, it didn't effect the issue.

Sounds like a different fault but when mine throughs it's wobbly it shows a number as if in gear, it's just not in one. It says no gear is selectable. I've tried Putting it into neutral (ie both paddles) and tried changing gear but it won't have any of it.
I share your concern and mines only done something similar twice

Get your dealer to speak with Aston Martin after sales in Gaydon and get them to investigate. The car is in for a service today and have told them about the fault, but I suspect they're going to struggle to reproduce the issue. There are some nasty problems that dealers fail to investigate and/or diagnose properly which are very dangerous.
I would also put everything in writing and send it my recorded delivery to the dealer.
That way there is an audit trail and no "we did not know".
Speaking from experience of a difficult to diagnose issue but not gearbox related.
Mikey K is also a good man with whom you should have a chat...
