Hi all,

I have seen various things on the internet (especially YouTube) about removing Fuse 22 on Aston Martins V8 Vantage for sound improvement.

Has anyone done this, could recommend it, or aware of any negatives as a result of it. Im really close to giving it a go but want to be sure it wont cause problems with anything.

Cheers,

Andy.

Just make sure you pull the tight fuse for your age of car. Check the FAQ section.

There are also one or two threads that take you to a remote control switch that you can install - no damage to the car and it means you can switch between 'loud' and 'very loud' at the press of a button. It's very easy to do and you only need the very basics of DIY.

I recommend fuse 22 out - it's a cacophony of sound but it's addictive; a veritable orchestra...

just take the fuse out and start up, go for a drive, see if you like it...if not put it back in

basically it opens the internal exhaust valve at zero instead of 4k revs...its function is to keep the car quiet to pass noise regulations etc

I have a remote on my car, to keep it neighbor friendly for those early starts, as soon as its out of the village can open the fuse wink

Thanks I'll give it a go tonight. The remote sounds like a great idea. Was it complicated to install?

Best and only mod I've ever done to my car.
Noise on start up when cold is hilarious.

4 years with zero issues.

It would be good if the 'Sport' button opened the valves from 0rpm. Perhaps the Vantage S does this? So just a software setting somewhere maybe...

It really is an easy mod... and I don't think anyone has had a problem. There are more permanent solutions but this did it for me:

I run with fuse 22 out most of the time.
I do replace it every few months for a while, so that the exhaust valves can operate, to reduce the chance of them becoming stuck.

My understanding (please correct me) is that the exhaust valves are;
Open from 0 - 1500 rpm
Closed from about 1500 to about 4000 rpm
Open above 4000 rpm

I doesn't but it can be done with AMDS

What are the chances of getting a dealer to do this? Indie more likely? Even if they know what to do, it probably makes the car not road legal when the sport button is on.

Not asked a dealer
But BR do it all the time
No issue with legality as it comes out the factory with that level when the button is in
Johnny's Sport button opens the valves from 0 rpm

Sounds like I might want this. I think the Sport button on my V8V opens the valves at lower revs than normal, but having it open them from 0rpm would suit me... will look into it, thanks...

When I went to take mine out it had already been removed. It must have been the previous owner as all the dealer did was wash it.

On a V8VS the sport button lowers when it opens to around 2500-3000 not 4000-4500. I'm not a great fan of the sport button though as the throttle map isn't linear and I quite like the car changing up automatically on the red line. I'll happily forgo the slightly higher red line and slightly faster gear changes. Fuse out therefore works for me smile

nope just plugs in and keep the remote in the ciggie lighter hole

James here does a kit, which is more expensive but plug n play, or the kit list for DIY is on this forum

Just taken fuse 22 out after all the advice and taken the car for a spin. Took me all of 5 mins from opening the boot to closing it and starting the car up. Its a great mod at no cost. You get to hear more of the lovely exhaust notes without having to push to 4,000RPM. I cruised around 70mph as well to check it wasn't uncomfortably loud cruising and it seemed to be just the same as before which i like.

I used pincer pliers to pull the fuse out.

Doesn't taking the parcel shelf out enhance the sound too? scratchchin
