Hi, I was going to buy a Porsche 997 C4S but I think an Aston is so much cooler. So my question is that I have circa £35k to spend so should I get a V8 vantage or the DB9?

I welcome your feedback

Welcome.

Vantage is closer in size and spirit to a 911.
But a DB9 has (equally useless) rear seats.

Do a search on here. You'll get plenty of previous threads on the topic.

It all depends on your personal circumstances. I have children who I will occasionally carry in the car so DB9 was the only choice. I viewed a V8 Vantage and subsequently a DB9 and to me personally I felt I was getting more car for my money with the DB9. Regardless of the rear seats, the DB9 I felt had more presence and more of the 'wow' factor. The Vantage may be the smaller car with a smaller engine but running costs wise there is very little between them. In the end it comes down to what you want from the car. Best thing would be to have a look at both cars and take it from there.

The choice between the two cars is a very personal matter, so I would suggest that you contact your local dealer. They should be able to let you drive both models, which should help with your choice.

My car is a Vantage, which is the best car that I have owned. More compact dimensions than a DB9, but from the drivers seat, it certainly does not feel a small car. Surprisingly, there is more luggage room in a Vantage than a DB9.

After you have decided, you then need to think gearboxes.
Should you favour automatic, the DB9 is a traditional torque converter. The Vantage is a single plate automated manual, which is great when driving quickly, but there are some criticisms, so you decide. In particular, try parking and stop start driving in a traffic queue.

Researching and choosing is all part of the fun. There should be a wide choice within your budget, because it includes the peak production numbers.
You should be able to find a good one therefore.

as above - the Vantage is the smallest car in the range yet has the biggest boot, being a true hatchback (other than a Rapide with seats folded) . People have been known to get their cycles in the Vantage boot smile

I know people that have gone Vantage to DB9 and come from DB9 to Vantage, it really is down to how and where you drive, and if you need the token back seats or larger boot space instead

You will have more choice of newer, less used Vantages for that money or you will at bottom of the market on the DB9. More chance of picking up a duffer with the 9 I reckon. Safer bet for £35K would be a lightly used well maintained Vantage

I want a DB9 when I grow up but for now I shall make do with my little Vantage... Love it!
