DB9 Sport Pack v DBS
Discussion
Hi,
I was at a 6th gear supercar experience yesterday. Surprisingly, I thourghly enjoyed driving a manual DBS (having been very disappointed with a 4.3 Vantage a couple of years back.). Now the budget won't stretch to a DBS but it would to an earlish manual DB9 with sport pack, I was wondering how the 2 compare, if at all? I am aware of the running costs involved in these V12 beasts, but feel it may be worth it for the "experience" compared to the 911's, AMG's I've had previously.
Thanks,
David.
PS I've already got the book!

Buy an early manual DB9 with Sports pack and give it to Bamford Rose for the 'Blofeld' upgrade. Lightweight Flywheel and Twin plate clutch, switchable suspension, Big brake upgrade, Pinnacle exhaust system, DBS manifolds, High lift Cams, remap... Comes out at 520 bhp.... and you will still have spend less on a standard DBS...I was at a 6th gear supercar experience yesterday. Welcome.
Being one of the 'younger' members, I have a Vantage (that is the ageist joke here), so cannot answer your question.
Anyway, having read your post, I was surprised to see when I looked at the DB9 Pre-owned list, that out of 53 cars, only 1 is a manual. It is a Sport Pack car though.

With all that on it.....still not a dbs......
Agree Tony and the DBS is a beautiful looking car. But, if budget is an issue then the 'Blofeld' route is 'one' of the ways to go for the same money. At the end of the day I have a very special and individual DB9 for less outlay than if I had bought what would have been just another DBS.Thanks for the welcome. I've read great stuff about Mike's work over at Bamford Rose and would probably be the place I'd seek maintenance and upgrades over time. It was more specifically what a DB9 with the sport pack would feel like out of the box against the DBS that I drove yesterday? Anyone driven or owned both?

I'm not convinced you would.
Also, your resale market would be dramatically smaller.
Cheapest DB9 on Autotrader? £28k + £20-30k (off the top of my head) for the modsAlso, your resale market would be dramatically smaller.
vs
Cheapest DBS on Autotrader? £72k.
= £14-24k wedge in your pocket.
For resale, take all the bits back off the DB9, sell the car for not much less than you bought it for and get 50% back for the extras.
I guess it all depends on whether or not the OP has the £72k budget required for a DBS. If not, a modded DB9 comes a very close second.
