I've had to replace both rear wheel bearings with only 25k miles on the clock. Is this unlucky or has anyone else had this problem?

Incredibly unlucky to need 1 at that mileage, let alone 2. I have never seen car needing both at same time before. Whilst used / older DB9 has a list of stuff to check, wheel bearings isn't one of them.

you have been lucky that the driveshaft extracted and wasn't seized in the hub. Too often they are meaning a simple wheel bearing replacement turns into new shaft and bearing.

of course, happens tother way around when new shaft is needed (cv joint issue) and because seized in hub also needs new bearing.

I had 2 go on my Vantage before 40K miles, albeit after a long period of being stood outside (not sure if that had anything to do with it) as I couldnt drive

Now its just over 70K miles and one on the rear has gone

not sure what the regular service life should be ?

Had to have one replaced on mine (2008) last autumn at 27.000 km (yes, kilometres)...

Hi Mike,

Was this done at the same time or did you finally need the second one to be done at 25k?

Did you do them yourself because it is not unknown for someone to "think" it is one particular side, replace the bearing and then find the noise is still there. If someone was doing this for you, finding they had actually done the wrong side will often mean telling you they both needed doing so they get paid for the one that was done unnecessarily.

It is often very difficult to locate the correct one just through the beginnings of a bearing rumble. Often, the bearing needs to be totally isolated to "feel" it to make the final call, and by that stage, you may as well replace it anyway.

One went at around 20k miles and was replaced by the AM dealer in Edinburgh. I'll be interested to see which one has failed recently!

At least if it was the same one, it will be done under warranty. Other than that, I think you are pretty unlucky.

The car is 10 years old so maybe that's a factor. It spent a lot of time stored in a garage before I owned it.
