Anyone else wish that on the 10k services that dealers would just give the price and do it in 2 odd hours like it actually takes rather than dragging it out for 5-6 hours to justify the £850?

I've just been quoted using the following chart for a 12 month service on a V12VS:

http://www.amwfixedpriceservicing.com/

Free collection and delivery, I don't think it's that bad.

I use Works and I think they are reasonable, always happy with the job smile

FYI, those prices are high compared to other AM service centre(s).

I am interested to know whether folks think it better to use dealers or the good "approved" indies.

From what I have read the Indy prices seem much lower but quality of work as good or better. What would potentially dissuade me is any perceived negative impact of non dealer service history.

Keen to hear opinions

you are joking, right? Doing justice to a 140 point check procedure, especially now cars are ageing is a 3hr task. Change consumables in tandem with inspection and basic valet is all minimum 6 hrs (under tray wash and brake hub paint spray). So just in time and materials it totals a fair amount of what you state is price. Of course if all you want is a quick oil rag service go to back street garage or DIY, but don't expect a quality outfit to drop standards to what you think is right time / price for a service.

Nice discounts for a manual Rapideconfused

My local dealer will deal, so don't be afraid to ask as these costs are a fair old wedge (and I feel often mechanically utterly unnecessary - do change my brake fluid every 12m (unlike any other car) to preserve my resale value...)

Ken, you change your brake fluid every 12m
your dealer must love you and as you say, unlike any other car for sure

I've looked at the Aston Martin Maintenance check sheet. When I went in for a cruise control flash they did a vehicle health check which took an hour. A quick comparison the two check sheets shows that the vehicle health is a very similar to the AMMCS and they managed to knock that out in an hour, admittedly it isn't as comprehensive but there isn't an extra 4 hours worth of checks.

Being quicker and more efficient doesn't automatically make it a poor standard of work. If it did everyone would be calling you in for doing a Vantage clutch change quicker than the manual..no it just means you work more efficiently.

The checksheet is very similar to BMWs inspection 2 service in terms of checks and that service takes 2-3 hours including changing things like the air filter and pollen filter which the 10k service doesn't include.

It really is a case of dragging it out.

Come off it rolleyes

Don't you have a Rapide? Well the check sheet stipulates you change a V12 AM every 12 months..

From what I saw the saving was completely minimal, I'd just use a dealer as I haven't had any issues with the work carried out. And if they think they're going to lose business to an indy they certainly sharpen their pencils.
