1ml paint £50!
Discussion
I have some tiny tiny chips on the bonnet and need these touched up before I get some hard coating applied soon but detailer says he's being quoted £50 for the paint! Are there any alternative sources anyone knows of please as there is nothing too special about Midnight Blue - surely anyone can mix it up? Thx

I made a right mess on my Beemer with that (comprehensive) Chipex kit despite having some bodyshop experience and watching the online videos! Not as easy as it looks! Not going near my Aston with it!
Is the paint code under the bonnet somewhere?
That must have been bad luck. I had no problems and have now bought the kit for my other cars; with success here too. I would strongly recommend it in preference to the normal manufacturers' touch up kits. Is the paint code under the bonnet somewhere?
More like poor skills maybe but the lacquer was convex after application with the tiny 'cotton buds' and the paint may have had bubbles in it which revealed pin pricks of primer when dry, plus the wet and dry left scratches around the 'repair' that the polish wouldn't shift, and left it proud. I made a right pig's ear but that learning curve is behind me!
Whilst you may only need 1ml, the mix will require a number of base colours and these will all need to be done in the correct proportions so it is really only possible to mix up significantly more. I got a small pot of paint for subsequent touch-ups when my car had some bodywork done and that was free, but the bodyshop were mixing the minimum amount anyway, 1/4 litre I believe.
When I saw the thread title I wondered if this could be an Aston colour! A few years back a very good friend wanted his special classic repaired after an accident at Silverstone. So repaired all of the body and ready for paint."I would really love to see it in the Light Metallic Green they used on some of the competition cars"says he.After a couple of ridiculously expensive quotes for five litres of the colour, I decided there must be something more affordable/ available so got out the paint chit cards. Eventually found an exact alternative-cant remember the colour name but it was used by Toyota back in the eighties/ninties.It was well below half of the 'Aston' price!!!
I have used paints4U and got very good results. However you will need time and patience and some experience. Colour match is very good and If I remember right they do have the Aston colour codes on the site.
