I get the yellow tyre sensor warning on the dashboard whenever I start the car, and it just stays on. Under the glovebox, all the lights flash amber continuously when the car is on, which is not a 'code' in the TPMS manual.

Tyre pressures are all fine, no punctures.

Any ideas as to what this could be? If tyre sensors were broken, the dashboard and module would light up in different ways (flashing on dashboard, fixed amber for the corresponding tyre on the module). Likewise if the pressures were low (red light on module for the relevant tyre). I had the tyres changed recently, but I would be surprised if they broke the sensors, and that should show up different warnings.

How old are the sensors? They have a limited battery life and once the batteries die, they trigger TPMS warnings.

not sure that the batteries would all dies the same day. did the system work when you had the tyres swapped or did it fail right after or how soon after. with some of the quirky systems you programmed the head end to see a specific sensor in a specific location. if they didnt put the wheels back in the same place it might be that. some even had different colours on the sensor to make sure you did that. some even had the colour on the valve stem to help you.

or, a failed head end.

i now the merc one just senses the location.it wouldnt matter what sensor was in any location. you can move the wheels where you want.

It started 400 miles after (that's one journey), which also makes me think it's not a tyre misfitting.

If the sensors failed and they are warrantiable, that's fine, the car is still under warranty. It may be an age thing, as Rich said - they are 7-8 years old.

ok wont be a misfit but unless a single sensor fail would do that i cant see that all failed at the same time

This might be a bit silly, but... Are you sure it's plugged in? And have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in? Only takes a few seconds and maybe it'll fix it lol

If I unplug mine the warning disappears on the dash. Often leave it unplugged if it's playing up.
