Morning all,

Wonder if someone could help.

I hit the red line recently in my 4.7 V8 Vantage going from second to third. Weirdly it hit the red line and jumped to 4th so either I double tapped or it failed when I changed gear.

Is there any red line protection on these cars? My M3 and C63 cut the fuel when you hit the red line but I can't seem to find any information on that with Aston Martins.

Cheers!

Of course there is. All modern cars have it

Further to Neil's usual spot-on post smile
I assume from your post that you have a Sportshift car? If so don't forget that unless you are in Sport Paddleshift mode the gearbox will change up at the redline, so it may have changed up automatically to 3rd and when you flipped the paddle it took you up to 4th! wink

Cheers guys.

Sorry I should have said it was the Sportshift model.

I had gone from drive into 'manual' and it was in second at around 4500pm, I put my foot down and tried to change up at 7000 but it just kept going and then the awful feeling of hitting the redline kicked in for 1-2 seconds and then weirdly it skipped up to 4th gear?!

I was majorly annoyed with myself, I drive it quite placid for most of the time, just every now and again on country roads I like to push it hard.

Just hoping I haven't damaged anything...

I did the same in my SS N430. Horrible feeling as it hid the red line before it changed gear etc. Shortly after the red light for oil pressure came on and I had to stop it, fill it up with oil (about 500ml) and let it cool down. It was fine afterwards but was not a happy bunny for half an hour or so. Neither was the Mrs as we sat around waiting for it to cool down...

A drop of 500 ml in oil content would not trigger the oil pressure light
