Steering rack ?

Just had an MOT and got an advisory on 'play in inner steering joints'. Spoke to the tester who said it's the ball joint end on the inside. Just had a look at the parts diagram and the only ball joints I can see are at the wheel end. I'll have a look at the weekend but can anyone shed any light. Fingers crossed it's not a rack.
