In the middle of a first return to the homeland for myself and the Vantage (06) from home in Geneva, cruising around nicely in Wales looking forward to going to Scotland tomorrow and all of a sudden the GPS put me firmly in the middle of the Irish Sea and when I look up the current position on the Satnav it says it has no GPS fixes. Any ideas?
Paul,
Welcome home,we've had the same thing happen to us many times over I'm afraid.
It's become a standing joke with us now when packing for a trip….."have you put the Tom Tom in",you'll probably find the same
thing happening when you go up to the Highlands.
If your doing the old Military Road from near Pitlochry over the top of the Cairngorms via Glen Shee you might find your screen blank
at a lose for coordinates.
It looks like a trip to Halford's might be in order, enjoy the rest of your trip………..
Sorry I can't give a technical reply to your post but I'm sure a boffin will be along shortly with the answer….

Try downloading the free Here mapping and navigation app, to your smartphone or tablet. Windows or Android.
Apple don't like the word free.
I think the software originated as a Nokia product.
It works without needing to be on-line.
I have tried several free navigators, some hopeless, and this one seems surprisingly accurate, including knowing the correct speed limits all the time.
Just put a free system on my iPhone - App store gave me Navmii which seemed to work OK yesterday getting me from Anglesey to Albert Docks in Liverpool - next test is getting to the Isle of Skye this weekend via Mallaig with an overnight stop in the Lake District..reminds me of the good old days with a route list on paper sellotaped to the steering wheel!!
With the screen in the up position a red Royal Mail elastic band is just the right size to hold the iPhone in place!!

I'll try it out this evening.
After two days of use I can thoroughly recommend the Navmii UK app for the iPhone, held in place with an elastic band!
Directions are good, speed limits and speed camera alerts reliable so far (tested in North Wales and Lake District - holed up in Penrith tonight)traffic alerts only good with internet connection, so once on the move I have to forego that bit...
