Really really missing cruise control. Is it really as easy as getting a steering wheel with cruise buttons and taking it to the dealer to programme in?

If so how much is it likely to cost at the dealer? Could it vary from dealer to dealer? My car is going into the dealership in Derby next week for warranty work (TPM fault) so was thinking of asking them to do it at the same time.

Any thoughts or advice?

Derby Stratstone fitted cruise to my 2006 V8V 3 years ago. It already had Bluetooth, so a new steering wheel with cruise and Bluetooth cost £566 and the fitting and configuring £19. It also has the added benefit of giving the car that smell of new leather. I sold the old wheel on eBay for £150. So net cost £435, well worth it to avoid points from the many long stretches of average speed cameras I drive through.

Mark,

I am sure you can fit the additional cruise control switch to your existing steering wheel, it then only needs programmed by the AM dealer to enable the cruise to work.
The cruise control switch set is not that expensive, see below.

Ask your dealer about fitting the switch to your existing wheel.

Yes, it is this easy. As already stated, you can also do it by fitting the cruise switch to your existing wheel but I think this depends on the age of the car and hence whether or not the wheel has a cut-out to accept the switch. When I got my MY2009 V8V I had it done with a new wheel by Stratstone Western Avenue (when I bought the car) and cost was only slightly higher than the quote already given. At that time I wasn't made aware that it might have been possible with a switch only (surprise surprise) but the other advantage of the new wheel is that the bit you are holding is brand new and somehow makes the car feel newer. Personally, I like to use Cruise so much that even at £600 it was good value.
