Hi all
I am taking the Aston down to Lake Garda ( Lazise ) for the week before heading over to Monza for the Grand Prix.
I am planning on avoiding France for a change, opting to go from Calais, through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria and then into Italy.
Thinking of doing 600 miles first day which will get me down near to Memmingen in Bavaria, anyone recommend places to stay or maybe give a view on alternative routes?
Thanks
Horts

I;m not sure where you are going (route wise) but I was just down that way'ish from Berlin and stayed in Bamburg and then Baden-Baden - (Bamburg is probably too far east for you). Of the two I much preferred Bamburg, but I guess it depends what floats your boat - Bamburg - picture postcard pretty (not bombed etc.) and Baden-Baden - spa town and hangout of the rich (which is after all - relative)...
Anyway, as you probably know - the must do is the 500 road from Baden-Baden south and onwards - great road and stunning views etc. Just be aware if you do go that way as a local informed me that to bill are using unmarked motorbikes to follow and film - so be careful... :-)
After the 500 - south of Baden-Baden, Freiburg for me was the next best stop - great little town / city with some wonderful Brauhouses and just a great atmosphere...I stayed at the Rote barren (http://www.roter-baeren.de/en), which is Germany's oldest guest house (1120 from memory).....
And then went on to Switzerland and various passes...
Anyway - hope that helps and enjoy...

Freiburg is very nice, chocolate box pretty albeit parking can be trickier. I think I've eaten at the Red Baron, if so beware the mixed grill- it can feed 5000!
It really depends on what you're after, as a stop-over after a long day driving I like to pile into the thermal spa (about £15 for 3 hours). the park in Baden baden is beautiful, the old town buildings are nice and most of the hotels in the centre have underground parking.
But it's horses for courses

Im am driving to Monza as well but will be comming from Austria over Crans Montana to pick up a friend.
I have a place in Kitzbuhel so the route fram London to Kitzbuhel is well known to me. To do it in one go is too long as I usually stop over in Luxembourg which is exactly half way.
In order to exploit Germany to the fullest you must go on Sundays as there will be no lorries on the Autobahn. Also bare in mind that Saturdays are "change over" times for holiday rentals and hotels in Austria and Germany and that school holidays have just started in Bavaria and Baden Wuertemberg. The Brenner Autobahn is very busy during the summer and so is the Fuessen border crossing so try not to be there on Saturdays.
I can recommend Kitzbuhel as a stay over and you can then head west on the Inntal Autobahn over the Brenner (not the tunnel but the Passtrasse)
