Been trying to figure out what rules the software uses in a V8 sportshift to determine how fast and how far to blip the engine on downshifts! Seems to me there are three or maybe four different versions and I'm trying to figure how I can guarantee a short sharp blip rather than a long lazy rise in revs! Obviously this is purely for aural pleasure (that's AU). Has anyone else had a go at figuring this out or am I the only sad one here! Second to first can be just mental if speed and revs are right, but I can never remember what they were when it happens!

Mine is adjustable. I just alter the speed of the change with the levering action. I can also switch it off when i dont like the noise. Whoops, sorry i just realised you have SS and i have a manual! cool

That's OK, I'm sure that not realising that I have a sport shift is a perfectly forgivable mistake to make - but for you to have only just realised that it is a manual gearbox in your car! That I was surprised at...still, every day a school day eh! coolcool

I'll guess that the manual/SS debate is a heated one amongst many, but for me, couldn't care less which one I have, as long as I have one! I hope you enjoy your's as much as I enjoy mine.

If it is anything similar to ferrari (i know they share the same gear box and similar f1 setup), the nature of the up and downshift is based on your throttle position.

If you are hard on the gas or (maybe brake when downshifting?) the gear changes and (rev match) will be quicker vs. when you are driving lazily

Thanks Mkzhang, sounds logical. I'm out of the country at the moment but will continue the 'tests' (any excuse) when I get back!

I do not know how the software instructions would be configured, but whenever changing down, there would be a particular rpm difference between the two gears involved. It is probably roughly the same rpm number difference between all the gears, so say for example 1000rpm, then the extra blip would need to be 1000 rpm more at any speed.

I don't think how much you are pressing the throttle, or speed of the engine, would make any difference to the required 'blip'. For the smooth change, we are just trying to match the increased rpm, that the lower gear will require.

I agree, it just needs to spin the engine up up match the revs for the lower gear (although the difference will be a percent rather than a fixed rpm difference ie 2k->3k or 3k->4.5k or 4k->6k)

There was an official guide to the ASM box but that really only talked about up shifts and how the speed changed with revs, throttle and sport button. I've not seen anything on more aggressive down shifts.
