I'm being quoted £1960. That seems a lot. What have others paid?

An Indie will probably quote you £760 or so.

With the value you have suggested for your service, I am guessing it is an offer from an official Dealer and if so, and the service is carried out by the schedule, will certainly include time for the discs to come-off, be weighed and assessed.

A good Indie will probably look at the discs on-hub and save 4-6 hours work and weigh-out if good or not.

Thanks. New discs would be a most unwelcome bill!

Unfortunately as you may be aware, fixed price servicing only came in on late 2012 cars

You can't directly compare the prices as the schedule for what gets changed when, was altered with the new pricing

But he fact remains a Nov 12 car costs £761 per annual/10k service most years, including 4th yr service, plus the odd filter on some services. So even if the schedule for your pre-2012 car is slightly more onerous, that price sounds very top to me

I'm not certain, but I'd have guessed shopping around should get a price more like £1,200/1,300 from an Aston dealer and certainly less than £1k from a specialist indy

I've just rooted through my old invoices.
Mine was done, just prior to me buying it, at a reputable independent.
The cost then was £975
That was September 2013 mind.

The 4th seems to be an expensive service. My 5th and 6th have been cheaper and that's with JCT600

The mileage can also affect it, mine was well under 1000 pounds at the dealer but it has embarrassingly low miles on it so they left some unnecessary bits out.

I've also had mixed experiences. I find Grange very good - especially if you call up, and ask if they can beat what you've already been quoted. On the flip side, Stratstones once gave me an invoice with a line item for washer fluid........really. I would recommend calling around.

Sounds very expensive ,I was paying about £1000 a service on the dbs,but for example stratsome would quote me £1400 but jct were £900,so shopping around is well worth it.

Thanks.

My PA is making calls this morning. The car has 21000 miles (all mine), which although higher than most garage queens is hardly excessive.

That is double what I paid just 2 weeks ago, for my '10 plate that's coming up on 11k miles.

And that wasn't from an independent and included an MOT.

Shop around, buddy. Someone is taking the Michael!

David, I think a 6th year service is cheaper than a 4th year one?? wink

that's nothing !

incidentally pollen and air filters are recommended every 20k miles, but they only total a few hundred pounds at full AML prices, far less at indy prices

other than that, even an AML dealer shouldn't be charging much more than 1k - your quote seems very strange

No - but I know that a 6 year service on a DBS can be charged for as little as £940 + £40 Mot from Stratstone.

That includes collection / delivery too smile

Got my PA to call the dealers around London. She got quotes between £1150 and £1450. My dealer has now dropped the price to £1150. They think we are mugs. They had simply slapped an extra £800 on the service.

£1960 was either a genuine mistake or a total piss take.

Will you take it to the same dealer that tried to overcharge you by about £700?! furious

I had 4yr quotes between £1k and £1200 (excl unnecessary pollen filters but inc unnecessary brake fluid - this really doesn't need changing after 5k...but helps turnover).

A phone call is often best mentioning that older cars should be cheaper to service and not more expensive - its how BMW try to keep older cars at the main dealer - giving a parts and labour discount as the car's value drops!

As a man used to servicing his own 'keeper' cars with beautiful precision and loving care angel I find this whole area very difficult, illogical and hyper costly soapboxranting
