I know the DB9 is going to be greater but by how much? I only do about 5K miles a year and I have ran 911 then a Cayenne as my only car before, so apart from the fuel is the DB9 that much more to run? Should say I have a good indie for servicing.

why do think the aston martin will be more expensive?

If you're using an AM independent, likes Works Services, I would budget on just shy of £1k a year. Some of the 'easier' years a couple of hundred quid less, some of the bigger years a couple hundred quid more (I think my 7 year service just done was £1,100)

Tyres and brakes on top of that depending on how you drive the thing smile

i agree, i am not sure why you might think it more expensive.
nor any less reliable. both have their issues as a brand and both have known faults.
i think if you put aside £1500 a year then some years you will be well under and saved up for those that werent.

Not sure if much difference in running costs,

But it seems that there's more cars up for sale with FAMSH, rather than FPSH, especially on the early models.

This is great news. The only reason I thought it would be more expensive is it has 12 cylinders compared to 6 and a 5.9 compared to 3.6, as well as being half the price new and a lot less common. A £40k DB9 looks so much better than a £40K 911

Would love an AMV8 or DB9, so watching with interest.

The prices suggested above are a lot more than it has cost to keep my 996TT in good health for the last 5 years. More on par with my Tuscan.

Also, surely at the 40k price point you are in the upper/middle 911 territory (specials excepted) and much closer to the bottom end of DB9's?

I had a 911 before my v8 Vantage.

I would say very roughly, servicing is around 30-40% more expensive.

In addition to annual services budget for new door locks (£475 each), which seem to fail with monotonous regularity. Once a DB9 passes 7 years old 12 new plugs and coils will soon needed £1200). Other DB9 niggles are exploding rear windows on cold and frosty mornings, if the window heat mod has not been done.

door locks? I've never heard of that before - has anyone else experienced that?

Previously owned a 911 997 2S which was a lovely car but over the ownership period more expensive to run than my V8 Vantage has been. Plus although the 911 was a very good car and had 4 seats, and probably could be driven quicker than the vantage more easily, it didn't get driven because we had the vantage.

Nope, and the glass issue was on very early cars.

The only difference in running costs with mine was the Aston extended warranty, which, coupled with great service from Harwoods, was excellent. Not that I really needed the extended warranty as it turned out!

Apart from that I noticed no difference in the two cars running costs. Maybe 10%.

Unless you're a track day guy, the Aston is such a lovely experience to drive and own that it beats the 911 hands down for me. I loved my 911 too, but the Aston was just such a great experience.
