Vantage weird noise when parked and alarmed
Discussion
Hi all,
Over the past week or so I've noticed on a couple of occasions strange clicking/clunking noises coming from the car when parked and alarmed.
It's a bit hard to describe, kind of a rapid clicking solenoid type noise that happens (maybe by coincidence) when approaching the car, before the button has been pressed to unlock.
The car runs fine, no problems at all and is still a joy to drive.
I don't think it's anything major, but wondered if any of you have experienced anything similar.
Ta.

Thanks Jon - no, the nearest thing I can liken it to is when you try to start a car with a flat battery and you get a rapid click-click-click... it's not identical to this, but v. similar in terms of the sound it makes.
Probably nothing (I hope!) but was curious as to whether anyone else had come across anything similar - it sounds to be coming from the rear near side quarter.

My Cayenne has an issue with reading it's Sat Nav disc sometimes, and that will result in a rapid clicking sound for 30s or so when I start the car. That does sound similar to a relay clicking on and off rapidly.
The Vantage sat nav is in the boot on the near side - could it be that? (Although I don't think it should be trying to read the disc when the car is locked!).

Hello again!
I'm still no nearer to resolving this - have checked battery (all fine) and the car still runs fine.
The noise/clicking sound appears to be coming from the rear nearside quarter - it's not the sat nav dvd reader - more towards the rear of the car in between the fuel filler and rear light cluster.
Anybody got any ideas what gubbins is in there (if anything!)
Thanks.

If anyone wants to hear the noises I'm trying to describe, I've uploaded a short vid to YouTube - seems like the noise is from rear nearside quarter and under the bonnet.
As I said, seems only to do it when turned off, locked and alarmed.

I listened to your mysterious sound. A good idea to film it.
It is certainly quite loud, so someone might be able to identify the source.
The only thing that I can think of, is to lock and alarm the car with the bonnet and tailgate up (if the electronics allow that). It might then enable you to locate the source position more precisely.
Have you tried pressing the button (near the tyre goo container), to switch off some of the electrical circuits, and therefore eliminate those?
I noticed your string and ball, anti-collision system. Mercedes-Benz would call that sbtronic. -

Good luck solving the noise.
