Vantage V12 colours & Spec
Discussion
Looking at the manual V12s that have been up for sale recently I had noticed that
a lot of the stock are black cars - maybe due to the carbon black editions Aston flogged?
Given the relatively small price difference between 09/10 cars and 2013 cars it seems like it makes sense to go for one of the younger cars.
But the later cars seem to have been speced with the standard seats rather than the lovely buckets that were more common in the earlier cars - any reason for the trend, just usability/comfort?
Finally, never been that keen on black cars on previsous experience of showing up marks and dirt. This leaves the white car currently advertised, again not convinced, always thought Astons suited understated paint. Interested in thoughts on this.
Not sure if the current cars up for sale are representative, seems like there is a distinct lack of later Grey cars.... Maybe I need to just be patient!
Interested in the collective's opinions/wisdom.

I'd not worry about the age tbh; I got my 09 at a good price and 2 years on its still the only one I've seen at the spec I would like. I don't think its lost too much value (if any) and the V12 manual vantage market seems pretty solid. Go with the car that has been looked after and is right for you.
Hi there,
Very briefly:
Stating the obvious, get the newest, lowest mileage, best condition car you can.
Lightweight 'bucket' seats give you a far better driving experience, and I would say they are essential. But some people don't like them or fit them. Try them both.
Colour is very subjective. I once said I would never again buy a black car, then I saw mine and bought it.
Personally, I think Astons look best in anything from Lightning Silver to Onyx Black......boring, but whatever, lots of others will disagree.
Have fun looking.

For me i love the carbon blacks but then i am biased.
If you want a late grey car i hear this one is perfect! They are classy dealer as well.

I bought my V8 Vantage from Alexanders in Boroughbridge, they have had this V12S in for a few months and it looks absolutely stunning in the flesh:-

Lightweight buckets and it certainly isn't black or grey, nice guys to do business.

You're absolutely right. But if you get a chance, test drive a V12VS.It is lighter, has better steering, suspension, wheels, exhaust, a more powerful engine and hence a 10% greater power to weight ratio than the V12V.
I also think the SSIII gearbox is better the the traditional manual of the V12V, and suits the car perfectly.
But if you're looking for the last of the classic 'manual' V12 Astons, then the V12V is hard to beat.
I'd also look at manual DBS's though.

Possibly, but the Aston CEO seems keen for manuals to be an option in future. We wait and hope.Ref. colours. I have noted that usually about one third of V8V cars on the Pre-owned listings are black.
There is a V12V Register website (sorry don't know address), which should give you an idea of the numbers of cars in each colour. Waiting should result in you obtaining the colour that you prefer.
One of the best greys is Grigio Titanio. Don't raise your hopes too much on that colour though, because there is only one V12V in the UK.

Plus it is involving, you have to learn how to use the gearbox to get the slickest shifts and I find it a whole lot more fun to drive than I would a traditional V12V.
I did test drive a V12V. Sure it is a brilliant car, but as I'm a short 5ft 8" the gearstick is too far back, you bang your arm on the lightweight seats when going from 3rd to 5th etc, plus it's just ok. Not the slickest box I've ever driven.
I would personally never go back to a tradional manual, like many will never try a SS box. But surely if you get the opprotunity, you should try it?
Of all the Youtube videos on the V12VS - the Xcar one is the best. Sums up the car perfectly.

Well yes, and no. It's what most journalists say after driving the car in 'D' mode. I agree with him, it's absolutely terrible. Which is why you always drive it in manual mode. Just using the paddles instead of the clutch and gearstick. It's 100% manual. You have total control of what gear you're in, you keep both hands on the wheel, and you can change gear far quicker than with a clutch and stick.

I was a diehard manual fan (currently own a manual V8V) and said I'd never touch a paddle shift.
That was until I test drove the blue V12S mentioned further up.
It just seemed to suit the car perfectly. Racing car esque

I absolutely loved it. Didn't use it in 'D' as I was enjoying mucking about with the paddles.
I'm trying very hard to think of a reason not to buy it!

Only Teasing Phil, i will check out that video.
No worries! I do tend to get a bit carried away with the virtues of SSIII. It does get a lot of bad press, mainly for the wrong reasons.Anyway, I'll soon be trading my V12VS in for a new Vantage with a monkey's arse, a front end that looks like a cod, an AMG engine with 9 turbos,a quadruple clutch, and a big telly on the dash.
Er, maybe not.......
Being lucky enough to own both versions I still cannot make my mind up as to which is best to drive. When I am driving the manual I love that one and when driving the S love that one!!!! Although on the face of it they look the same both have very different characteristics. I think the S is probably quicker through the gears but who cares they are both fantastic cars to drive. Whichever way you go you will love it.
