Its cheaper than a Mclaren.
A point I've been tempted to post somewhere. Biased answer expected here but wondering if anyone can weigh in on comparing a V12VS to the new McLaren 540c/570s. Only 570s reviews at the moment but the 540c is at a similar price point...if you were buying today would your money still no doubt go to the Aston or could you be lured by a new McLaren? Has anyone experienced the 650s and a V12VS to draw a comparison? I remember hearing/reading that the Aston can feel slightly analogue in a digital world, but I imagine that's part of the charmanother orange car: http://used.astonmartin.com/en-GB/Search/Details~3...

I've test drove several V12V's (manual and S) and now own a 650S
I came close to waiting for a 570S but got a stonking deal on a new 650S spider
The McLaren is a VERY different car, it is 400kg lighter for starters
It is a lot more advanced than the V12V
The engine in the 540/570 is a twin turbo V8 detuned version of mine (which is detuned from the P1), whilst its not as characterful as the V12 is is a belting engine.
The gearbox is a Graziano sourced DCT box with the latest software, in my car it is blisteringly quick on the changes in track mode and it actually works well in Auto as well, unlike the Graziano box in the V12VS.
I'm not sure but I don't think the 540 will be available in the UK
I love the looks, interior and sound of the Aston, but in every other aspect the McLaren is streets ahead IME.
I'd also say a used 650S would be the sweet spot with regard to value for money out the bunch.
Am I biased ?

Go and drive a 650S with handling in Normal, power in Track and aero on. Find a B road you know and get on the paddles

Very insightful! The V12VS auto gearbox crops up on virtually every review I've come across, but overall it was still regarded as an incredible car. I see you also have a V8V so already have the Aston GT side of things covered...
650s seems next level to me. I know the V12V is a super-car but the McLaren seems a different league somehow. Dealer used prices still seem high, averaging £180k...surely your stonking deal can't have been far off that? I've seen other posts where UK based PHers have a 540c on order so think they are available, albeit with a later delivery.

I remember hearing/reading that the Aston can feel slightly analogue in a digital world, but I imagine that's part of the charmThe V12VS is more of a baby GT with sports car tendencies. I say that because there's stacks of room in a Vantage, which there isn't in the other cars mentioned here, plus on a track, the V12VS probably couldn't stay with the others due to the added weight etc.
Then there's the completely different engine type and layout.
So apart from another V12 Aston, I think you're left with only a Ferrari F12 to compare it to. But that's way more expensive, more powerful and much uglier.

So personally speaking, my money's still with the Aston. Then it would be a 458 Spider.....but not instead of.

I agree. I think Mclarens main rival is Ferraris 458,488.The V12VS is more of a baby GT with sports car tendencies. For me the Aston is a very classy GT which at this momment is exactly what i want in a car.
Compared to the v12 Ferraris i would keep what i have over any of them.
I just love the v12v.
Interesting responses. Agree on your points, all reviews of the 570s have comparisons to the 911 Turbo/R8 V10 (not the 458/488 incidentally - the cynic in me thinks this was press instruction to defend the price-point of the 650S). Reason for raising was I'd always thought the V12V was more "raw" and less of a GTer, but sounds like this isn't the case and they would be very different cars to live with.

IME all the road going Astons are more GT than sports car (at least out of the box from Gaydon!)The 570 is pitched at 911/R8, but the 650/675 is pitched squarely at 458/488/Hurcan on spec but lower on cost. Woking are in no way trying to bolster 650 prices, I got a new built to spec one for what my modest 570S spec came to!
BTW just encase none of you have seen Monkeys recent comparison have a watch!

Thanks Mikey - me and my lad really enjoyed that non TG tv clown video (and could name every location).
Really glad to see this car price speculation business seemingly put to bed a little bit too as I tried for a GT3 but seeing that I don't think I looked enough like a titled someone who might want to kiss an amphibian we went stonking glorious tasty V12 with supermodel curves (and similar depreciation!) instead ...
