Afternoon all,

In light of the incident with the lorry yesterday and the fact I have put off getting one for a while, I am going to look at getting a Dashboard Camera for my Vantage.

Anyone got any good recommendations or setups they are running themselves?

Cheers!

I'm using the BlackVue DR650GW 2 channel system and really like it. it gives front and rear cameras. Have not had any reason to use the captured images yet (Knock on wood) but i do like to review the parking images once in a while.

I bought mine from a Canada vendor. but blackVue is sold world wide and even through Amazon.

Along with the above Blackvue, the Lukas dashcams are very good indeed. The Lukas has a little better video due to higher bit rate but not enough to undo the advantages of the very neat Blackvue package.
Better than most of the cheap dashcams that are popular, these have a parking mode that only records files to the card when motion is detected. They are clever in that they continuously record but only commit the file to disc when it detects motion. That way it stores the moments leading upto the motion aswell as the motion itself.
Hook them upto a power monitor that shuts them down if the battery voltage gets too low to start the car. Handy.

Here are two (well really only one) cameras worth considering as equal to a GoPro and better than a Blackvue in terms of picture quality.

Although neither of these cameras have the gps function that the Blackvue has, they video at the much higher speed of 60fps.

Unfortunately though the Veho Muvi does not appear to have a mounting system for use in vehicles.

Forgot these. Here's what one use had to say about them.

... had a go pro... and it seems they do fail. all my mates have in one way or another..
I was due to replace mine, but bought one of the ebay specials for £39.99
came with all the Go-pro compatible accessories and it is fantastic... 1080p resolution. wide angle etc. and mine even has the WiFi built in and I can control it from my phone. the screen at the back is really good and the extra buttons on the side make it far more user friendly than the go pro....
even cam with an underwater case....
god knows how they make them for that price... I paid £350 for my GoPro a few years back.

I went for the original Mi-Witness cam, chosen mainly because of its good features and the fact it was Piano Black to match the dashboard of the Vantage.
I know they have released version 2 which is much better features but doesn't appear to be piano black anymore:

Anyway, three year warranty, HD, front and rear cams, GPS, neat, parking mode, event mode, etc.

I have not used mine in anger but it is still amazing what you video going along the road, from drunken semi-naked females, cars on fire and some crazy driving too. Plus it serves as a reminder not to be too hard on the Go pedal as it also records your speed of course!

Lots of choice, good luck with it.

This is a Blackvue fitted in a Vantage, cable can be hidden very easily behind the trim.
