It is interesting to look at the financials of these two cars, both bought new in late 2008.

Jaguar; New list price = £80,000
Trade value now = £18,800

V8V; New list price = £85,000
Trade value now approx = £40,000

Wow. so although buying a new Aston is a good way to burn cash, its nowhere near as bad as a Jag...nothing new I guess wink

XKR was £70k in 2008, it wasn't until 2012 that it became £80k - by which time it was a 510HP very high standard spec car. Unlike the Aston wink

Having said that, the Aston has the better badge so it's unsurprising that the residues are better. The Vantage is in my view one of the finest looking cars ever made.

I use to really like the Jag and back then thought it was quite close to the AM to look at. I don't think time has been kind to the XK at all and genuinely think it looks like a dinosaur next to the Vantage.

Surely a DB9 is a better comparison. £130k new - £55k now = £75k depreciation.

XKR was £70k in 2008 -- £18,800 now = £51200 depreciation.

Don't tell everyone Michael, otherwise there won't be any half price, 3 year old cars for us to buy.

It doesn't always pay to buy used....
The DB6 I owned cost me £3,250 and now is circa £4/500K
A decent E type is now about £150/200K. laugh

If you were quick, in early 2015 you could have bought a recreation Lister/Jaguar Knobbly for £250K, now it will cost you £300K to have your name added to the order book. I'm no expert but I wouldn't be a bit surprised that once Charlie boy and others overcome their predjudice, these cars will more than double in asking price over the next 5 years. If only I had the spare cash I'd be on that list in a heart beat. yes

I have not started on the Chistmas drinks yet Steven, so have been able to think about your comments.

Presumably when you were in short trousers and bought your new DB6, your car was the successor to the DB5.

Therefore (with hindsight obviously) it would have paid you to buy used. You could have bought a secondhand (they had not thought of pre-owned then) Silver Birch DB5, for less than you paid for your DB6.

How much would that DB5 be now?

It's only money though. We love our Aston Martins more than the money.

Long story short...... I had ordered a new Pontiac Firebird ( don't ask ) that I'd specced and was coming from the States.
A mate told me about the Astons that he'd seen,in the showroom of HR Owen,so I went along to have a look and was smitten and that began my association with Astons.
It was a DB6 MK2 and was pre owned ,about 2 years old.
In the showroom there was also a silver birch DB5 for similar money.
It was a close call but I bought the DB6.
