Front Grille - Recoating
Discussion
Hey Boys and Girls,
I'd like to get my front grille re-coated. I don't really to purchase a new one as it's structurally sound, it just needs re-painting/coating. Any suggestions for people to do this? I've put an email into works but I have a feeling it's not going to be the cheapest option....
I'd like something in a bright finish.
Cheers,
Chris.

I did mine with the rubber paint which can be peeled off at any time, as I have the bright front grill I wanted matt black but didn't want to commit to a permanent job.So I thought I'd try this rubber paint TBH it's great and remains on with no chips or peeling for almost 12 months.
Do you have some more details please of the rubber paint?? Trade name? Supplier etc??Thanks.
I bought a tin of this and it is remarkable. Not actually used it on anything real yet. It sprays a very thin layer of matt rubber on seems to be fairly easy to remove as well.

Same.. Mine was done in black by Phil at 'South Coast Tints'. 2 track days and a return trip to Monaco and not a mark on it.Dave,
My mates just purchased a early 9 and the grill has stone chips…….
Will the rubber spray just go straight on over the top and mask the slight horror show underneath or is there much prep work.
What sort of cost should he expect to have it done properly by your contact………ball park.
Finally still hoping on you putting in a Burghley appearance with the BR Special you know…………….

.Bon jour Ed
Mine had a few chips, but ended up stripping back to the stainless steel and polishing it up. Slight pig of a job to dismantle the grill. You will need to prep up as I don't think the rubber paint will hide the chip marks unless it's a very high build finish.
Speak to you later in week.

Something to note, I managed to remove my grille without doing anything with the bumper. As far as I'm lead to believe that usually isn't possible but the plastic vertical struts on mine were damaged so I could pull it out leaving the two outermost struts in place. You can probably do this on a normal intact grille with a bit of fiddling. There are small plastic catches holding each horizontal bar in place that can be moved to release them. As for a bright finish they do have these metalizers, they've probably added to the range of colours/products since I did my grille. Not much prep needed, just make sure the surfaces are clean. You can prob fill in bad stone chips with some metal filler.

Hi Ed, I removed the grille and dropped it off at his workshop. He srtripped it and sprayed the liquified coating over the parts which dries like a thin film of rubber. I think he charged me around £150.My mates just purchased a early 9 and the grill has stone chips…….

.I will be 'Away' for Burghley but may 'Lend' Blofeld to BR so they can show it.
Hope all is well
